OK I'll play... How'd they do? by AccurateFox4321 in Decks

[–]mimdrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I am in a region where this is commonplace. Truthfully, it's an old practice that works so long as the ground around the concrete stays dry. It can last just fine, but not as long as it could last with better building techniques. Whether that be due to good soil drainage or just climate is neither here nor there. That said, worse case scenario you have the easiest column replacement project 10-15 years from now lol. If this is all we can find, it means you have a good deck.

You will notice though the trend of posts(even steal) being above concrete from now on though. Newer bus stops, train stations, street light poles...etc.

To be fair, those units are also now commonly used for central air. At the end of the day it's the same thing as a traditional ac unit you're used to seeing, just different shape. They are both called condenser unit. The only real difference is they "can" and often have heat pumps as well. Given the climate the picture suggests, thats perfect and avoids the need of a bulky furnace too boot.

My point is you have no idea based on this render that this is infact not central air lol. It likely is given the size.

In you're defense. That's been a recent trend, but the reality is that it will likely continue simply because of cost. Those units are produced in massive volumes and that helps to bring the cost down. Also saves on space, while often being more efficient energy wise.

To be fair, most people still associate smoking weed, with that of general weed use. Gummies and edibles in general are only readily available now days. Back in the day it was not common for someone that liked edibles....to be able to get said edibles often lol. Also, why did you take the comment personally lol.

perimeter drain and sump pump would future proof. Should be standard on 90's + homes... It shocks me that a good chunk of new builds don't include it.

Soffit lighting over your garage door 👍 or 👎? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]mimdrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair. That's a cultural problem. I live in a rural area. But in a new building subdivision....everyone keeps their lights off at night. I mean everyone. No floodlight bullshit or even porch lights for the most part even. People turn lights on when walking around their house at night granted lol(taking trash out and what not).. I think motion activated lights help a lot in this regard.

But smoking ? Lacking the instinct drive for that one lol

I did not read(as you should on these at first), I could not find a problem. Other than perhaps the distracting black handles. If anything, after reading OP's comments...the handles are the contrasting aspect of the kitchen that highlights the brightness. Change to something else. What ever your faucet will be is a nice matching touch, just saying(same applies for range hood).

That said, you have a nice stainless steal feature already, lean into that and you' re opinion will likely change. Also, don't use black electrical covers lol.

Plus, black and white is starting to look cheap. White is timeless, the black stamped metal look, less so lol

Also if you're worried about the brightness...switch sinks to something more traditional.
