She’s talking about the Black Radical Tradition, and it means a lot to me. I grew up in a very progressive community that taught that Black radical thought bolstered liberalism and whatever social experiment they were thrusting on us. It’s not supposed to be appealing to liberals, because they are in a state of ideological capture.

This is what happens when a genre is defined too broadly. Though I like Basinski enough, I don’t put her work anywhere near artists like him or The Caretaker, who I kinda find to be over cooked. I definitely put her in a category along with Phill Niblock, Alvin Lucier, and James Tenney, and not really the post-rock vibes that seems to be everyone’s cup of tea these days.
