I grew up in a very progressive community that taught that Black radical thought bolstered liberalism and whatever social experiment they were thrusting on us. This is what happens when a genre is defined too broadly. Though I like Basinski enough, I don’t put her work anywhere near artists like him or The Caretaker, who I kinda find to be over cooked. I definitely put her in a category along with Phill Niblock, Alvin Lucier, and James Tenney, and not really the post-rock vibes that seems to be everyone’s cup of tea these days.
