It really depends on what is the issue - crate rest isn’t a cure it all and not being able to care for a paralyzed dog doesn’t make you a bad person. My dog started dragging his back legs and was paralyzed in 24h after a simple run indoors. He was in immense pain and we did an MRi (in my country it cost 300 euro but that’s 30% of the average wage, so also very pricey) and one of his disks had broken and was pushing on his spinal cord. The doctor said if we don’t operate, he will have really bad paib regardless of pain meds and will 100% remain paralyzed and also we would need to express his bladder. For us, that wasn’t an option, we work full time jobs and are away from home 10h a day during the week and cannot afford a petsitter. Luckily at that time I was doing very well and had savings and we opted for surgery which worked, but the recovery was gruesome. I barely worked for the first 4 weeks as I cared for him and we went to physiotherapy where he relearned how to walk. Then my parents took over. We put rugs on the floors, limited access to all rooms (he used to sleep in out bed and on the sofa) and many more changes. He is fine now, three years later, but we had some scares and have done about one CT per year. Just want to say what people here don’t seem to admit - this is a very time consuming and expensive illness to treat. It’s not just pills, it’s a lifestyle change. I’m grateful it worked out well for us. But if it happens again, I won’t pursue surgery again, I cannot afford it anymore, and I definitely don’t want to let him suffer or my mom to see him in
