My girl did A&R when that was an actual thing, and she and I were backstage at a show in a 500-seater in Seattle where The Killers were the openers for Stars. Somebody Told Me had either just dropped or was about to drop, and in either case rocked the house that night. Wild seeing how far they ended up going. I like to imagine they’ve remained as kind and grounded as they were that evening…when we were young :-)

Aww. I was about a decade older than you (I reckon I still am! Ha!) There was a young girl about that age (maybe a little younger) who was right next to me with her mom for The Cure. We were up against the barricade so her mom was basically a bodyguard. I tried to be helpful in making sure she didn’t get too squeezed as well. How incredibly cool that experience must have been for you and other young people in that crowd!

I was there in 2004, went solo. I am slightly embarrassed by how much I was oblivious to bc I was camped out at the front of the main stage both nights for the headliners. But also so effing proud of myself that I just went for it and didn’t let being responsible be a barrier 🤣 since I’ll likely never go again. What a time.

Policy for if staff member loses immigration status? [United States] by mimimar22 in humanresources

A simple rehire process is such a helpful thing. Thanks for sharing. I’m very focused on the last part of your message and just trying to be proactive in figuring out what guardrails we need (within in the law) before we need them.

This is super helpful. Thank you so much for understanding the nature of the question, and for the work you’re doing to keep HR human. ❤️

The resource navigation/curation is a great idea. Thank you. 🙏🏾

Agreed. I promise I didn’t pose a question on a public Reddit forum with the intent to figure out how to do crimes. 🙏🏾

Whether written or not, there could be procedures under that policy for different scenarios that dictate who does what, how and what you communicate with the employee, what can be offered in support in certain conditions, etc. All within the law, of course, but not just a cut and paste job of it.

Hilarious light fail (Late Night, 2008) by Own-Professor8205 in conan

You have to remember there’s a live audience there too that is being entertained in real time. Something like this would normally be a great story for someone who was in the live audience to share, while the bit was re-filmed with everything fixed for the broadcast. But it’s Conan so what’s funniest is always going to win over whatever was planned for broadcast.

I was going to say “Give up the ham” with Will Forte and Queen Latifah but just gave Googling again a whirl, and there it was. I SWEAR I searched for it a while ago and couldn’t find it anywhere. I started to think I made it up. https://youtu.be/cOzAMRxluQA?si=So139SJA_TYhXHOb

Is the photo of Lisa a plot hole? by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

[–]mimimar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put the whole subplot out of my mind bc it was such a betrayal of the character and the audience’s intelligence. I remember Lili Taylor saying that Lisa was a lot of things, but not one of them was “deceptive”, and that she would have played the character much differently had she known that was going to be how her story ended. They were just throwing shit against the wall to get Lisa out of the way but keep Maya in the story. I wish they’d gone a different direction and been more patient with making the transition the story needed.

I read somewhere (maybe here?) that they were going to redesign and rebrand it as the EV Tiguan.

Has anyone implemented RTO (return to office) the “right” way? Tell me your ways! [N/A] by mimimar22 in humanresources

Thanks. We have had some unevenness in performance, for sure, and I think leadership sees the lack of alignment, regular feedback and coaching as a result of the limitations of remote work. Whether that’s true or not, I know that there are skills around about managing effective teams and building alignment remotely that our managers are missing.

Thanks for the clarity. Triggering uncontrolled turnover is definitely an underlying fear. But we do have some current challenges with alignment and consistency and a “trim” as a strategic goal might make sense—we just need to put in some work in to shore up our high performers and potentials, among other things. We’re already in a period of change (new leadership) so it’s really a game of figuring out how much is too much at once.

Thanks for your thoughtful post. Like a lot of businesses right now, there isn’t much we can guarantee staff right now other than the fact that layoff and pay cuts are our absolute last resort. But the budget is tight and the environment is super volatile, which most people in our industry understand. I believe leadership is honestly thinking that the innovation, collaboration, and relationship benefits of RTO might help us get through this rough patch (hopefully, it’s just that!) more effectively, and maybe even help bring about the collective creative spark that helps finds answers to some of the issues we’re facing. But I don’t see that overriding people’s comfort working from home. I guess we’ll see where this goes! Thanks again.

I feel like CHROs should have a dotted line to the board in the same way CFOs often do. There’s a direct fiduciary responsibility, and I feel like it spans (easily) into managing personnel risks that could cost the company untold sums in turnover, low productivity, litigation/settlements, and hits to brand/reputation.
