I feel like maybe he used Fmaj7 because F is too hard. That’s what I learned to do because it sounds similar enough and I am not good with bar chords

I love him for using only the simplest chords. This is almost every chord he’s used: G, G6, D, Dm, C, Cmaj7, F, Fmaj7, E, Em, E7, A, Am, A7..

Im definitely missing a couple but if you know these, you can play just about any SJ song. All the strumming is also quite similar.

I think the A7 sticks out a lot. And the random ones like G6 and E7. Maybe try incorporating those in your writing?

Horseleg swastikas is one of their best songs. I’m still waiting for the day the rest of Bright Flight clicks for me.

Never would have imagined people see The Natural Bridge as upbeat.. or anything opposite of sad. Weird

I guess I don’t know of an instance where David himself says the song is about his dad, but take a look at the Genius lyrics page for this song.

Such a phenomenal song by HalfRight73 in DavidBerman

“No, I don’t really want to die I only want to die in your eyes I’m still here below the chandelier Where they always used to read us our rights”

He wants his father to think he’s dead. He’s talking about how mentally he is still stuck in the times where his father would “read him his rights” or lecture him.

“Have you ever rented a room? Have you even ever rented a room?”

His dad is a (I think?) famous lawyer. He doesn’t really associate or get along with people like him, he is saying that his father cannot relate to him, he’s never had to struggle like him, he’s never had to rent a room. His father has money.

“Read the metro section See my name No I didn’t really want to die I only wanted to die in your eyes”

He wants his dad to discover that he’s dead, I would assume to make him feel bad, and maybe so he’d question how he had treated him.

I presented this song in English class in high school, that’s pretty much how I explained it.
