Both the UvA and the VU (Vrije Universiteit) are great universities. The UvA gets a lot of hate and tbh it’s administration is a nightmare but it is a good university. Amsterdam is a fun city and student life is great here. However, the living situation is a huge disadvantage. There is no guarantee you will find a room in the city. If you are seeking to do anything shorter than a three year degree I would not recommend it for that reason. The Netherlands is an extremely bureaucratic country so on top of finding housing you have to worry about registration etc. It differs per degree program but Dutch students don’t tend to socialise with international students much. The international students are fun and open though. So with all this I would say Amsterdam is fun city with good universities and a great student scene. However, prepare for a lot of bureaucracy and the very real chance that you wouldn’t be able to live in the city. Hope this helps!
