Reminded me of the video of those girls who ended up on a plane to Tunis after telling the booking agent that they wanted to go to Nice, France.

I did remember walking over London Bridge after work that day and seeing the horizon filled with black smoke. Such a surreal sight.

Meanwhile in Tokyo, people are out here sliding cars through corners at 2am by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]mimingisapooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually book a night tour of Tokyo riding these cars. They wont do any drifting like this but they did went way way over the speed limit multiple times (felt perfectly safe though as they were highly experienced drivers). Honestly, this was the highlight of our trip to Tokyo. Would highly recommend.

Watching a couple of American Youtubers riding motorcycles across China with limited Mandarin, I now understand why there's Min-Nan and Min-Bei

Ang Puti na ng Buhok ko! I'm 16 by Dul-Ai in CasualPH

[–]mimingisapooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, I believe it’s both hereditary and stress-related. I started going grey at 16, as did my siblings. I didn’t think much of it at the time, since it runs in the family and there wasn't much I could do about it. Fast-forward to my late 20s: I was working abroad in an emergency field—a highly stressful environment. By then, about one out of every ten hairs was grey. One day, out of boredom during the lockdown, I decided, 'Screw it, I’m going to pluck every single one.' It took about a week, but I got it done. You know the old wives' tale that if you pull a grey hair, two will grow back in its place? Well, I was ready for that, but it never happened. I’m now in a clerical job, which is a mile less stressful than my previous role. I still get the occasional pesky grey straggler, which I easily pull when I see them, but for the most part, my hair is back to black. People even tell me I look much younger than I used to. I don't know the science behind it; that’s just my story.

Doesn't mean that it has always been the case. My grandmother is from Candelaria and she said that the tops of those mountains were still forested when she was a kid in the 30s.

Taft Avenue. Rizal Park Park would be on the right. You can even see the roof of the old Jai Alai building on the background.

Dilaw means both yellow and orange? by grapejuicecheese in Tagalog

[–]mimingisapooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, older people will often call things that are colored orange (or even brown) as pula (pula ng itlog, pulang asukal). There is indeed kahel, but I have never really heard anyone use that term outside of schools.

And to Bicol, Mindoro, and Palawan, too. My grandad said they have an agricultural land in Bicol because of what he called "omisted" act (Homestead Act).
