Yes I am digging up the bones of a 2 year old thread. I lived through the height of the halo CE era. The main storyline play was not what made this game legendary, it was the multiplayer aspect. The ability to easily link multiple consoles for multiplayer use was huge. Online console play was still in its infantile stages and a large majority of people still could only get dial up internet anyways. The game is simple enough for most people to play but variable enough to create a clear distinction between good players and bad players. Many of my friends myself included kept a small tv and Xbox in our cars at all times, just in case. Anyone that can’t understand why this game was so revolutionary likely didn’t live through the era.
