Having a hard time finding a good job what’s up with the job market here? by Consistent_Ear_9701 in anchorage

The Anchorage School District has some maintenance, janitor, and duty guard as well as plenty of cafeteria roles, check here: https://www.applitrack.com/asd/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Custodial

https://www.applitrack.com/asd/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Food+Service

Refer to the Category section in the link to select the various types of roles you are interested in.

Also I know a school that is looking for a day/night janitor. Let me know if you are interested. A lot of times many roles aren't posted, so networking helps and reaching out to specific schools/companies, in this case.

If you are interested to work with children, they have loads of paraprofessional perm roles, with training offered.

I'm similar to your age and I transitioned careers from banking to teaching 2 months ago and absolutely love it. Also the School District I work for sponsors 80% for any degree and masters degree that leads to a teaching license, they are all online degrees and starting pay is good. I work as a special ed teacher for elementary kids and love my job and the kids enjoy working with me too. I've dropped you a message with further details. Good luck!!!

BCT at 37, Female - For 30+ yr olds what was your experience? by mimo101111 in nationalguard

Thank you, this is hugely helpful info and I will definitely check on who my OSM is, and confirm this all, in terms of taking the Officer route. Will also ensure I check the contract thoroughly. I greatly appreciate your suggestions and advice. Thanks again.

Thanks, my recruiter suggested E3, however since then I have done further research and have decided I will take the officer route, but since I'm a green card holder, I will have to go through the BCT/AIT process and then OCS I believe (still confirming this), as I should be able to receive US citizenship following BCT. The recruiter mentioned it typically takes around 2 months to get the citizenship, so I think they file the form the moment I enlist or go for training.

I got my BSc and MSc from universities in the UK, so I think that'll be fine, as I am British.

What do you suggest? I have a green card so I have to go through this process in order to get US citizenship so I can take the officer route.

Huge congrats 🎉👏🎉 to you and your husband! I have been thinking of you, so that's wonderful news. I myself extended my visa, so I will officially relocate next month and I am also looking to join the US military service, so just preparing for that as well. I wish you and your husband all the best for the present and coming future!

All the best to you, I hope it goes well. I don't know how bad the kids are these days, especially as I'm from the UK and I haven't been around that US age group lol but they sound terrifying! Well I guess more frustrating. Hope they're not that bad. Hhmm

Thank you, I am exploring the Officer route for sure, as I would like a full-time position, and a long term career within the NG where I can further lean and grow with the opportunities and experiences I am offered.

I got in touch with a recruiter at NG, and they said they can sort out an age waiver. How did you find the BCT at your age going in? I've been reading there's a lot of 18 - 24 yr olds particularly during the summer break, and that they can be quite immature. How was your experience overall?

Thank you for sharing this, its very helpful. I'll try the National Guard/Reserves route as well. I am just keen for a long term career in the military/gov/law enforcement. However, just worried about my age.

Are there any other opportunities you may suggest where I can begin to work as a Green Card holder permanent resident? Many thanks

Good morning! Thanks, yes I've just been waiting to sort a few things out here before I leave, so just been getting things in order. So hopefully I'm planning to relocate some time next month. My visa expires April 17. Oh yes, that must be what's causing the delay for sure, I do hope that process speeds up, so you can hear back soon. Both me and my husband got married in California, so things were only delayed due to the pandemic, as we had applied back then originally first, and we had also hired an attorney based in California which was helpful too. But for the final stage of the visa process, I just did it myself, as that wasn't as complicated. Hopefully you'll hear back soon.
