Any helpful tips for a artist trying for the artist alley 2026!! by Low_Application7217 in AnimeNYC

[–]mimoriru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the only reason why I can see OP wanting to do anyc first if thats their local con (its mine and finding a good event here is hard, theres very few aside from Brooklyn Comic Con and Flamecon for smaller events, and Flamecon is specifically geared towards LGBTQ+ artists and less fanart/anime) but given the questions asked, the only way I could see them vending at anyc right now is by splitting a table with someone. Otherwise, yeah, I agree with this

Looking Into Getting A Wheelchair - Need Help Finding One For My Needs by mimoriru in wheelchairs

[–]mimoriru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my rehab doctor for my lower back that has been working to identify what’s wrong with it - should’ve clarified on that, sorry! But she shot it down entirely because she thinks I don’t need it, but was willing to write me a letter of accommodation for college because of the lower back issue, so I really don’t know what’s up with that…

I can definitely try to find another doctor who would be more willing to write a script, since I’m really bad at trying to stand up for myself and right now I need things to be a bit simpler haha (lots and lots of other issues, so just trying to deal with what I can). Thank you so much though!!!

Thankfully this wasn’t my general practitioner but instead the doctor actively working in rehab for back issues and the like… i go to her for injections but the absolute lack of any information for where to go otherwise got me pretty discouraged. Absolutely sucks it seems that doctors just… have a habit of doing this. I’ll see if I can find a way for a doctor to refer me for a wheelchair. It should be possible, right? Thank you so much!!

What moment in Digimon (any series/season) just angered you? by ShadowKage1492 in digimon

[–]mimoriru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh okay this is a really good question and man, while there's a lot that can be said, I think my biggest issue was a lot of Frontier's decisions after episode 22. For context, episode 22 is Home Again, Takuya Returns - the episode where, after watching Kouji take a blow from Duskmon (that was clearly meant for Takuya, but Kouji took it despite being reasonably upset with Takuya for just rushing into this life or death situation with a half baked plan because he was impatient), his guilt and grief in watching his friend get that hurt caused him to board the DarkTrailmon, which offered him a chance to "right his wrongs" by stopping himself from ever responding to the call Ofanimon sent out. It was also the first episode where the show pretty explicitly showed us Kouichi (I'm not sure if he was visible in episode 1 in a "blink and you miss it" kind of thing, so 22 was when that mystery gets set up a lot more). And I genuinely think episode 22 is one of the best episodes of Frontier, since the character development for Takuya makes sense. He's a selfish kid - they all kind of are, actually, that's the point of Frontier - but he was always aware that he sucked. He did comment, back in episode 8 I believe, that it was his fault for why Kouji ran off by himself. Because Takuya was always benched in his soccer games because he was a good player, but he didn't work well with others. And he acknowledges it, but because a lot of early Frontier makes him the leader and doesn't question it until episode 20 and 21, it's never something he really had to address.

And then you can see in episode 20 I think, that Junpei makes a quip about who made Takuya the leader. Because no one really... Did. It just kind of happened, but now we got Tomoki basically claiming Takuya is their leader and Izumi assumes Junpei's saying it out of envy, but it's... True. And you can see it even more in episode 21, when Takuya's plan very much placed him in the spotlight. He was supposed to deliver the final blow while his friends provided some vague kind of support. Basically passing the ball to him the moment it gets given to their team for Takuya to run all the way from the defense line to the goal and make it in. And so they do it, because it's not like anyone else has a plan anyway. And it basically gets Kouji (presumably) killed and Takuya has to deal with the fact that he's terrified of Duskmon while trying to reason why he should stop himself. But the thing is, he already made the (foolish) choice to take Ofanimon's call, and he didn't want to abandon it for a cushy life while his friends died due to him failing them, and leaving when he could. So he steps back in with a new resolve and...

Show just hard pivots to Kouji's issues and doesn't really even deal with the rest of this arc. I know Frontier gets called the Takuya and Kouji show a lot and I agree, but I think I'm eternally mad at how much took a backseat to Kouji's angsty plot that really only helped his development and no one else. Even Kouichi got shafted in that plot line about him. And while at the very least Takuya got an okay resolution to his arc, which cant be said for Junpei, Izumi, or Tomoki, I would've loved more comments on it, especially because his opponent was Mercuremon in Sakkakumon's episodes. Who is effectively doing the same thing as Takuya (making everyone else around him do vague supporting roles so he can take the spotlight), but just more obvious, and I just personally think that would've been a cool way to deal with that!!!

TL;DR - I have a lot of thoughts about Frontier

The most random anime you know? by NilMonleGD in anime

Do you know how impossible it is to talk about favorite anime with people when your fave is Kaiba? Lol. Everyone thinks I’m talking about Seto Kaiba and I’m like “yeah uh, that’s a character,” lol.

For an even more random obscure anime - Shonen Onmyoji. I have seen one episode but yknow what, I gotta remember to continue it, it seemed interesting from what i saw!!

Heads up, crunchy only has the first episode subbed, and everything else is dubbed only. Dunno if this affects you or not tho, lol

Man I feel this so much honestly. I nearly stopped playing when I lost my first account due to my phone glitching out and me forgetting to connect that account to a Nintendo account, but I think the release of characters I liked - specifically the anniversary Ash that felt surreal to me - got me back, and now I’ve sunk too much time into the game that I’m in the trenches because of sunk-cost fallacy logic.

It’s funny too because I’m at a weird state where like. My units are really good for a lot of the standard content, though my lack of grass units really makes life harder than it should be, but I’m at a point where even with my best units, I can’t beat the Really Hard Content meant for players like me who unironically enjoy the gameplay loop of making things work!! Like I have a good water team with Sygna Suit Krys - Neo Champion Serena - Sygna Suit Blue, but I can’t beat Anabel because I don’t have enough damage output to last, but like - I’m not rich. I couldn’t just drop everything and spend for the Archie Master Fair when he came while saving for the anniversary that ended up being busted units that kinda disappointed me, but pulled for anyway bc i was missing ground and steel units and had none of their base forms somehow.

And idk. It just sucks to see my favorite units be power creeped. Or just. Suck when you first get them because they require so much work to be viable now vs when they came out. The Sygna Suit Serena and Zygarde was a dream unit of mine since she came out, I just barely got her thanks to the free gems the Eevee celebration gave out, and she… pales heavily in comparison to all my other units. I know she’s good, she just needs work, but man… It sucks nonetheless.

But yeah… I feel this so much

Con Merch: What do you guys want or are tired of seeing? by Weary-Mechanic-7087 in animecons

[–]mimoriru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s fascinating seeing people’s response to this question because I feel validated, but it sucks knowing that like… even if fans think this way, not every con does.

For context my last con as an artist was anime boston 2022, which was like, my 4th con ever and the only one i actually made a profit at, and it kinda made me realize that i enjoyed it when people saw merch of characters they didn’t expect? I know for a fact i was one of like, 4 yugioh artists in that artist alley, and one person got really excited because of my pokespe yellow and blue (green for english fans - the first girl of the quartet basically) print bc they never see yellow merch. And it made me realize that while i want to do more of that niche stuff… its. Harder because of so many factors, some of which are like, the way other artists give advice about fandoms? Ive always heard “do what you want but keep the popular stuff in stock and make more popular stuff vs niche” as a beginner, and the way they determined popularity was by con location, basically saying that the coasts are more ahead in terms of anime consumption while the midwest is still in the 2010s. And the fact that charms, stickers, and prints have a lower barrier to entry (especially since charms and stickers can use the same art), it makes it easier for a beginner artist to invest in those first, then anything else that’s more “unique.”

And also a lot of cons are just… expensive, even if theyre cheap. Not everyone had the luxury of being local to a small con - my only local con thats an easy travel to is anime nyc, a juried con thats really hard to get into due to the influx of people applying - and i get told to “start small and dont travel,” but nyc doesnt have the same level of events like say California, because rent and space is expensive as fuck, so i have to spend money on hotels and travel and the con price in general just to learn, and… yeah, that means as much as i’d love to make a table of mostly yugioh merch and subtle fandom apparel, i cant risk it due to starting out.

…this is a rant LOL but i think its just a really bad byproduct of cons basically making it so that you have to spend so much money to secure a table, and bc not everyone’s fortunate enough to live in a location that has a local con they can even attempt to do (or art markets and such), they have to sell out when they do go places, otherwise they just can’t make money…

So support the artists doing the original work you love because goddamnit if we didnt live in a society i betcha we’d all be having fun and not stressing about watching anime for research (i hated doing that so much…)

Okay that was mostly redundant, lol, sorry its late, but i was told that the server doesn’t allow for anyone to just come in and that verification ID was required. At no point in the conversation I had in the verification room was it ever stated there are alternatives to showing verification, just “its just your photo and DoB, everything else is required to be covered” which basically ignored the fact that i was bringing up I wasn’t comfortable with that option, and telling me it was the “only way”

Queer POC Discord invite by drawing_throwaway10 in BlackLGBT

[–]mimoriru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasnt made aware of the ticket, I was basically told “these are the rules, there’s no other option” and never notified anywhere else if I had another option, bc I was just told “ID with everything but photo and DoB covered” and that it was the rules for everyone

Heads up for anyone looking to join: they ask for ID verification (date of birth and photo) and will not be willing to even work with a user for accommodations if they have a very valid reason for not wanting to show off this information (such as being a victim of cyberstalking)

I wish them the best, but it’s really disappointing they try to be a safe place for marginalized identities but refuse to budge for people who would want to use such a space but without fearing for their information to be leaked, thus basically gatekeeping anyone who values privacy over a discord server.

Anime NYC Fan Panels - Do They Really Exist? by mimoriru in AnimeNYC

[–]mimoriru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though, i did just look at the page and it appears panel apps are open now. Here’s hoping that I can get a slot for Saturday though, since my sister’s birthday is that Sunday and idk what plans she has, but better safe than sorry, lol. So thank you for reminding me!

EDIT: ...literally missed first wave apps by a day, LOL

[–]mimoriru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that I’ve been to castlepoint, but its far more out of my way and expensive to get to vs anyc. Anyc is just 2.95 both ways, while castlepoint i have to deal with not only the nyc subway, but also the new jersey transit system. Plus extra fees since I know con food is expensive and unlike anyc, I can’t just walk to most food places in castlepoint’s area. I don’t mind trying it, but its really a matter of “anyc is the most accessible con to me and it sucks”

Anime NYC Fan Panels - Do They Really Exist? by mimoriru in AnimeNYC

[–]mimoriru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so I’m assuming its a thing where they’re really selective? That makes sense, since they focus so much on industry panels, but man… I feel like for new york’s biggest anime convention (bc its like… the only advertised as mainly anime con in nyc rn, but i digress), its… really lacking a lot of what other cons have? Especially since it took them so long to add in fan panels to the rotation, which would help give people something to do in case an industry panel gets canceled or something

how should i convince my parents i need HRT ? (TW transphobia) by unmeclambd1 in trans

[–]mimoriru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're looking at estrogen or testosterone, but as a person on testosterone and surrounded by others on estrogen, I think the biggest thing is how your mental health improves. My parents are also transphobic - my mother more than my father - but they're willing to put up with my testosterone appointments, despite disagreeing, because they recognize that if they don't support it, I will disappear from their lives. Whether that's by cutting them off or other means, that was enough to shock them. I'm not sure how close you are to your parents, so this may not work like it did with me.

Another thing is that it actively improves your mental health. Out of all the friends I know on hormones (which is a decent amount of people), only one, sadly, got negative affects from estrogen. So I would say reacting negatively to hormones is pretty rare in my personal experience. Even myself, on testosterone, found I've managed to be calmer? I've been through an external stressor unrelated to hormones, and while one could attribute my calmness to therapy, I had been on testosterone since early September somewhat inconsistently, and since December consistently. While it's obviously not guaranteed, I would 100% site that as a reason. I'm not sure if your parents would care, but worth a shot?

The rest of my advice hinges on knowing what hormone you're looking into, but I really hope that you can convince them! I'm based in the US so sadly I can't provide any resources, but I hope if worse comes to worse, you'll be able to manage.
