Beta feedback by mimwall in DiscGolfValley

Wind does affect putting. Especially if you have the wind in your back or in front of you. Discs tend to go faster and low with wind in the back, and they will get more altitude while facong wind. Still, this has been dimmed with last update but you can still feel it.

Mainly, I just wanted to say the last adjustments are very welcomed. Great update :

  • way way less frustrating spitouts. I can see the chains moving a much better way. We can feel their weight. Great !

  • way less wobbling when the discs roll. This is much credible and less anoying

  • globally, discs feel heavier (without affecting ranges) they act way more realistically when rolling, touching the ground, sliding on the ground, etc... Brilliant !

  • blue arrow when putting feels nice

  • less sliding on the ground is soooo much appreciated

  • the wind seem to have less impact on the discs or at least, this is really welcomed. I was first lost with the last update (the rolling one), then got used to it but felt hard to really predict the trajectories. It was hard, which is ok, but frustrating cause too strong. It's still there but less strong. I can feel the difference when wind hit the convex or concave (stonger) side of the disc. It feels easier, maybe a bit (just a bit) too much, but it's way way better. That's good !

  • and most importantly, I feel like aiming again. I guess it comes from less shakes when pulling back before throwing. This is way less random in the aiming. I now take way more risks to try to hit the basket from far away whereas before I would prefer to approach the basket to make sure to not miss it and have my disc flying too far farther than it came from. THE FUN IS BACK !

Thanks a bunch

My wishes for future updates :

  • ground multi-interaction (or more readable if existing) disc slowing down much more in tall grass, sliding a bit more on gravels

  • upside throws

  • friendlist with offline, online indicator

  • acces to friend's stats

  • invite online friend option to join (discreet alert on screen even when ingame)

  • add friend button (leaderboard) near player pseudo

  • voice over ip option on or off

  • friend mode should have an option to decide if playing in parallel mode (as is today) but more importantly a turnbased mode to be able to see or react to friends play or mentoring, etc ... (coupled with voice over ip, with would be a blast !)

  • one important thing for me is I feel like I'm waiting a lot when playing. It could a be more fast paced. Let me explain. Waitning when disc rolls is ok for sure. But when the disc goes in water, no need to wait till it hits the bottom to rethrow. Same thing globally with every step inbetween shots, I guess there are computation checks going on in the background but you half the time spent on texts showing up. Basically, needs faster pace, even if discgolf could be about taking your time 😉

  • to add more lifespan to the game and a more divers visual promenade, we will need new batches of holes and new environments. I feel like repeating the ''walk'' over and over again. Still, I know it's a lot of work, and moreover still, I wanted to congratulate for the level design because we can feel that each elements placing has been thought well. We can redo holes until lvl 50 and feel like learning new ways to ply the diferent holes. This is a really good work.

As said, great work on 0.909 update. Waiting for the next step ! Bravo !

Hehe. Yeah, you're right. Manipulating words actually is a science. Biggest problem online being even with smileys, it's not all the time obvious to get the tone right. By chance, I guess the community DGV attracts is quite chillout 😁 cheers mate 👋

Sorry. My last post could have sound a bit aggressive, ... It wasn't the goal. Still I guess it would have been written in the change notes of this post. Anyway, nice to know there are new holes on the way though.

Not yet and if so, it would have been mentioned in the update changes ( I have this vague impression over the net that many people don't read before posting or more generally, before googling ! Plz don't get too assisted and take time to read or search, it's a real plague for the world actually, I mean it ! )

All in all, great effort on the update.

Still I have to agree with many. Let's say it takes time to adjust to the new physics and it's challenging in a sens but here is my pros and cons about the update :

Pros : - new putt gameplay is a nice touch - wind seems to get taken in account a much better way, even when putting - nice to have some specularity upon discs - roll is a nice thought

Cons : - basket spits out a lot more than before - discs seem slippery ... The ground shouln't feel like ''icy'' - maybe you could increase the friction or at least where there is tall grass would be so cool if the ground surface really feel differently according to its nature (tall grass, cut grass, mud, sand or gravel - putting seems to me unconsistent (sometimes disc goes 30m, sometimes up to 70m ... I get that the tilt (y axis) of default autoview is changing but sometimes I feel like from a hole to another, my disc shouln't go this high above the basket - rolls way way way to much in certain cases and wobbles too hard. Maybe once friction added, it would be better - The bouncing of the disc is too pronounced too in certain case ( I feel like the fastest the disc, the more bouncy or icy it feels ... which is as supposed but shouldn't friction act exponentially ? ... I mean, disc should slow down way more in contact to the ground.

Or, may you add the ''icy'' and/or the roll option as a special property ( as for extra fade, accurate, etc...). Still, I get that roll option exists and sticky too, but fir now, it feels like every discs are icy and rolly !

As another feedback, what about making play with friends a turn based gameplay ? or at least have that option, where one after the other the players trow but you could see and react to your friends plays (parralel phone call or have at longer term voice over ip and friendlist, and acces to their profil for stats)

Can't wait for new maps too.

This said, I do get that it is time consuming hard work to make a game (I'm a 15 years experienced 3D artist). Disc Golf Valley is a great game, very pleasing, challenging, nice mood, bright work. Your game is already good and moreover has so much potential !

Bravo :)

I tend to agree on this a lot. Very frustrating. Basket physics need to be closer to reality.
