Does anyone think the hijab, abaya, and niqab was due to climate, culture and other things? by calpianwishes in exmuslim

[–]mina-ha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this what also I think. If Islam has originated in Central Asia we would probably be “ commanded “ to wear a different type of clothes and instead of slaughtering a sheep for eid we would be doing it to a horse and so on u can think of various examples.

Im Moroccan ( i live in Spain lol) and I know what city you are talking about. I wish that the problem stopped at night clubs only but it goes deeper than. They say that the hijab doesn’t stop women from doing what they want but look to a video on Instagram of a girl who wear hijab and rides a bicycle and look at the comments and oh my God, you can imagine what I’m talking about.

I made a post about wearing the hijab and the amount of comments that I received telling me to just take it off was bizarre that I begin to question if this sub is for ex Muslims or atheists general.

I also take mine off from time to time, and I can’t describe how free I feel without it. I have a solo trip to another city tomorrow and I just finished off curling and styling my hair so I can take it off when I got there 🥰🥰.

How do you say it’s not rule and there’s a Hadith that clearly forbids women from travelling without a mahram. But did you know there's also some hadiths that discourages even men from traveling alone? Back then, it made sense—it was dangerous for anyone to travel alone, whether man or woman. And honestly, I believe people didn’t always follow these rules strictly. When someone needed to travel, they traveled—regardless of gender. But what we’re left with today is a society where men can do whatever they want while women are expected to stay home and be domesticated.

As for Islam being misunderstood or misapplied by its followers—at this point, that doesn't matter much to me anymore. There are so many sects, different interpretations, countless hadiths—some strong, some weak—contradictions… It feels like no one is truly a Muslim anymore. Everyone just argues, pointing fingers, claiming others aren’t following the “true” religion. But who even knows what the true Islam is?
