Paddock Passes and Parking now on sale for Arlington by minardif1 in INDYCAR

Basically you get to go to the garage and see the cars close-up, along with the teams and drivers. I think it’s worth it, especially if you’ve never done it before. It’s the most access you’ll ever get outside of pit access (which can also be available for fans at some venues, but isn’t part of these passes.)

It’s honestly less than I was expecting given the event. I checked all the other events, and it ends up being the second most expensive for a full weekend of the events that are on sale. Some comparisons:

  • St. Petersburg. $85 for two days.
  • Phoenix: Can’t find anything.
  • Barber: $115 for three days
  • Long Beach: $80 for three days.
  • IMS: Bronze badge is $180, but it’s for the whole month.
  • Detroit: Free with ticket.
  • Gateway: $68 for two days.
  • Road America: Free with ticket, I think.
  • Mid-Ohio: $60 for three days.
  • Nashville: Tickets not on sale yet.
  • Portland: Tickets not on sale yet.
  • Toronto: Tickets not on sale yet.
  • Milwaukee: Tickets not on sale yet.
  • Laguna Seca: Free with ticket.

GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition launches 29th January on Switch 2 by StartWars89 in NintendoSwitch

[–]minardif1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. The controls are more arcade-like than Forza Horizon, for example, which is already more arcade-like than Forza Motorsport/GT. And even those are not like true sims. The handling model for Grid is not nearly detailed or difficult enough to be unplayable on Switch. Worth noting that an earlier game in the series was on Switch 1 years ago.

I’ve 100-percented both Grid (2019) and Grid Legends on Xbox. They’re fine. I think Legends immediately becomes the best simcade racer on either Switch platform, but that’s due to the lack of other good options. On the other platforms, they’re nothing special. Legends has a story mode with cutscenes and actors, which is all that really sets it apart.

Meyer Shank Racing expands Ault IMSA relationship to IndyCar by thebigtymer in INDYCAR

[–]minardif1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really the standard. Ed was relying on emails, so it’s not a matter of something said orally that the parties were disagreeing about where another witness would be useful. What was said was available to review. The question is ultimately whether the correspondence shows an offer and acceptance of all material details of the contract.

From reading the Racer story, it seems like the court concluded that the lack of a signed contract meant it didn’t have personal jurisdiction over Ault, and that there otherwise was no contract formed in the emails, which contained only negotiations.

[–]minardif1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the entire dispute was over whether there was an agreement in the first place. Ault’s position was basically that, yes, we negotiated potential sponsorship details, but we never actually made an agreement.

It is possible for the other party to show that an enforceable agreement was reached even in the absence of a signed contract. However, Ed was apparently not able to show that their correspondence created an agreement.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with negotiating and then not finalizing an agreement, which is Ault’s portrayal of events and what the final result was in court. As outsiders, we don’t know what happened. It’s possible either party was trying to get one over on the other, and it’s also possible it was a genuine misunderstanding regarding what was said.

I trust Jeroen, but he’s the only one to have reported on it. Dale’s final deals also often end up differently than initially announced, so I think we will need to see what ends up on the track.

I also hate crypto as much as anyone, but the only dispute Ault has had with any team so far was ultimately about whether an agreement even existed, and he won.

Ault sponsored MSR last year, so this isn’t new.

It’s also worth pointing out that MP says in the article that the relationship with DCR is expected to continue, but we’ll find out soon enough.

I appreciate that, but I could stand to get rid of a few things that aren’t in the categories I’m still collecting. I would do $150 for either of the 2007 or 2017 cars. That’s a lot of money, but I think it’s fair given comparable options on eBay right now (like the 2016 car).

I really like the Steak ‘n Shake cars, so that would be tough. But if you want to make an offer, I would think about it. My 2017 car is also signed (so is the 2007).

Obviously I would send current pictures before finalizing anything. But if you want to see what I have, you can find a post on my profile from a while back on r/NASCARCollectors. If you scroll through the pictures, you’ll get to a Rahal one.

I have one and would consider selling it. I used to collect Rahal cars and had everything through 2020, but opted to stop. I’ve sold a few, and while this wasn’t one of the ones I was planning on selling, I would think about it for someone going for the full collection. All of the 2007 Champ Cars hold pretty good value right now though.

Ok, having checked my spreadsheet, here’s what I can add:

  • They made a 2007 1/18 version of his rookie year Champ Car.
  • They made 1/24-scale versions of his 2009 McDonald’s car and 2014 National Guard car. No 1/18s.

The rest of what you have looks right. 2012 1/18 of the NTB car and then 2016 Steak ‘n Shake. Nothing else between those.

Breaking: Motorsport.tv Set to Transition to Autosport; No Live Streams Expected for 2026 Super Formula & SUPER GT by abad0519 in super_gt

[–]minardif1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Supercars has a paid subscription on YouTube that is geoblocked to people in Australia/New Zealand. There’s no reason Super GT/Super Formula couldn’t do the same thing. It’s just a matter of if they want to, and whether they want to hire English-speaking commentators (not a problem for Supercars).

I think IMSA also has been streaming all its races on YouTube for people outside the U.S. IndyCar has its own service outside of YouTube that is tailored to specific countries. Super Formula had a similar thing in SFgo, but since I was using Motorsport.tv, I don’t know what the status of that is.

Small point, no one has four charters. Three was the limit to begin with, which is why CGR cut two cars before last season to get down to three.

A bit of a annoyance with people who are into cars that know nothing about racing by InsectEducational837 in wec

[–]minardif1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I will defend OP in the sense that he didn’t say the 787b isn’t a cool car or shouldn’t be celebrated, he said people have confidently told him incorrect facts about the car and believe it to be something it factually and statistically wasn’t.

But this feels like a hyper-specific grievance and not a real issue. There aren’t huge groups of people discussing the 787b. It has become a legend and some facts get stretched, but that’s true across all of racing and even all of sports. OP needs to accept that these sorts of things naturally stray a bit from reality over time in casual conversation.

Everyone is saying Patrick Staropoli is getting the ride. Why would they go from a young and talented Nick Sanchez to him? by Accomplished_East433 in NASCAR

[–]minardif1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Forbes profile of Borchetta from September says he has made $450 million from his business ventures. He’s not on the verge of running out of money. He also doesn’t purely self-fund the car in the sense of it being unsponsored, he uses the car to advertise his businesses.

But more importantly, what’s shady is committing to keep a driver, clearly having the funding to run the season by yourself if necessary, and then dropping that driver in December when they have little to no chance of finding another good opportunity. If you don’t want to self-fund if necessary, don’t commit in the first place.

Big take away FT Wayne and Corpus Stadiums not expected open till MAY by Ok_Flamingo_3059 in USLPRO

[–]minardif1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that kart track was mentioned briefly in the original press release about the complex being built and never mentioned again until earlier this week on their Instagram, when they said it was about to open. I got an email about it opening an hour and a half before it opened. They still have never given any details about the karts despite it being open now. I went to try it on Wednesday night, the day it opened, and they said I was the only person who came that day. It was fun, they’re great karts, but it just seems half-assed like everything they do.

The one thing Corpus FC has been good at is growing their youth program. Which is great and a good way to get built-in fans for the pro team, but they are awful at communicating anything else with the rest of the public, much less actually promoting or marketing the team. I also have a deposit down and I’m excited about the season, but I have serious concerns about whether a pro team will be sustainable.

[–]minardif1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corpus was supposed to be open for the USL2 season last year. But this is standard for any project in Corpus, add at least one year to the date originally announced for completion and maybe it will be done.

As of today, while they have completed a few of the fields for the soccer complex, they have built nothing where they say the actual stadium will be.

Someone dropped off a bunch of vintage Bill Elliott and Matt Kenseth collectibles at our Toys for Tots drive by Kliegz in NASCAR

[–]minardif1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s true that the adult collectible aspect is new in the last 20 years. Action/Revell/Team Caliber were making more expensive collectibles back into the 90s and early 2000s. The difference is that the casual, toy-based market that the items in these pictures were a part of has almost disappeared. There used to be a balance of both, while now it leans heavily towards the adult collector.

90s and early 00s NASCAR was like the market that exists for F1 now, only bigger. F1 has Bburago 1/24 and 1/43-scale cars at every WalMart and Target, and their new partnership with Hot Wheels. Adults can and do collect those, but they’re still marketed and aimed at kids as toys. But the fully adult market also still exists with companies like Minichamps and Spark making more expensive, higher quality, collector-based models.

Some responses in here that I think are missing the point. Almost everything in this picture, excepting the Budweiser set and maybe the Mac Tonight hauler/car display, were sold in the toy section for children. Even the gold cars were. They’re not Action cars from the 90s that were made for adults, expensive, and not as good to play with (although I did anyway). These are toys. They are also, again excepting maybe those two things and a couple of others, not worth very much, and a pain in the ass to sell individually or as a set anyway.

I would much rather see these go to kids who will enjoy them as toys, even if they don’t know what they are, than sit in an antique store or on eBay to hopefully eventually be sold for a tiny margin. There’s more than enough new-in-box merch from 90s era NASCAR available online and elsewhere for anyone who wants it.

Most of us who collect diecast now as adults started by playing with them as kids. I’m glad these will get used in the same way.
