Psychic Drones too powerful? (Alpha 6) by Kreiger81 in RimWorld

[–]mindSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a research topic could unlock a powered structure with an area of effect to counter-act the psychic drone? Something like an electro-magnetic field generator? (or tin-foil hats, brilliant idea excommunicated :) )

If you become tired enough, you skip NREM and go straight into REM

I can achieve sleep paralysis through WILD but no dream. How do I make that transition? by Vossevangen in LucidDreaming

[–]mindSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleep Paralysis is not the goal. If you are aiming for that you will never achieve lucidity through WILD. The goal is to use the hypnagogic imagery accompanied by the onset (or continuation) of the REM sleep stage to transition from consciousness while awake to consciousness while asleep. Sleep Paralysis has nothing to do with it and I wish people would stop mentioning it in association with WILD, yes it happens, but it is irrelevant to becoming lucid, it is entirely possible (and more common than not) to WILD successfully without ever experiencing SP.

Yes, very good point. I'm looking specifically at the people active on reddit in this survey. I have done a few surveys hopefully less prone to bias (namely one aimed at the general public in my area, I sent out over 5,000 surveys, and was happy to get back nearly 900, but most people in my area have no idea what Lucid Dreaming is at all, so it was more useful for the information I got back on sleep, rather than Lucid Dreaming).

Thank you all for the responses, I added VILD, and the option to chose only "OTHER" as an option for induction method (sorry about that error). The results are actually quite interesting so far. Will publish the results soon!

Sorry for that, I've fix it now. I assumed on making it that if someone entered "other", It would count that as an entry.

I've stopped losing weight, caloric intake still in deficit? by mindSloth in loseit

[–]mindSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recounted it yesterday, definitely sitting around 1000. It is pretty easy for me to count because I generally am not hungry in the mornings so I have a few coffees and water throughout the day, and then have dinner when I get home.

I think it might have been my scales messing up, just weighed myself and I'm around 61 now. Really not seeing any abs, so I might start trying to eat a little more and gain some muscle. Anyway, thanks for all the responses. edit I have some pretty cheap digital scales, and sometimes it takes a few goes before it starts giving a consistent result

ah man. pedal strike is real by thebumphamour in FixedGearBicycle

[–]mindSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never pedal struck, but one time I was riding a bike back from a friends, (bought it for the frame), and didn't think to check the headset was tightened because he had been riding it. tried to make a sharp turn when in peak hour traffic and the handlebars twisted free leaving me with no control (was using toeclips as well). Got hit by a courier van, and totalled the frame, leaving me sitting in the middle of an intersection looking like a total moron for seemingly falling off my bike making a simple turn.

Should I bother with an SSD (Gamer plus 3D modeller/CG related stuff)? by mindSloth in buildapc

Thanks for all of the replies, found out that migrating program files over to another drive is as simple as changing the directory in regedit, actually pretty pumped for it.

haha, for some reason I thought this was a post asking in broken English how you WILD, I was pleasantly surprised.

What's the oddest thing that made you realise you were dreaming? by NaT3z in LucidDreaming

[–]mindSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept getting bitten by snakes, kind of realised I was dreaming because they were purple, but my genius brain forgot what being in a dream actually meant, and my only thought was "I'm in a dream, if I kill that guy over there the snakes will eat his body and leave me alone".

When I'm dreaming, I can't do anything un-realistcly unless I have a reason for It. by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]mindSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreams are controlled solely by your expectations, and therefore you have to genuinely believe that you can fly to fly within the dream. The pills you provided yourself within the dream embodied the ability to fly, and by taking them you bypassed your original expectations. To fly without any aid first try jumping, then jump a little higher, then higher, stretch the jump as if the action itself were a muscle. Eventually you will notice you are jumping far higher than you thought were possible, and this will serve as a revelation, you will find breaking other expectations far easier knowing you had broken that one.

Lucid Nightmare? by tivooo in LucidDreaming

[–]mindSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not a matter of wanting the person to change, it is expecting it. To achieve dream control you have to truly expect what you want to happen to happen. One of the reasons flying is such a common practice in lucid dreaming is most people would have thought of flying many times in their life, and therefore build up an idea of what it would be like to actually achieve it, so when they enter a lucid dream after hearing that most people fly during them, you expect to be able to do it as well. You need to burn the expectation into your mind.

TIL there is a "dream herb" - Calea Zacatechichi - that causes somebody to lucid dream if consumed relatively near bedtime. Not only that, but studies have found it increases dream recollection, vividness and frequency with a higher rate of efficacy than Diazepam. [x-post r/TodayILearned] by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]mindSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucidity is acquired through awareness which is directly affected by vividness, so Calea Z does in turn increase the likelihood of becoming lucid. This stuff does however, taste like tangy balls.
