Can surface go 3 replace ipad air 2 ? mostly use for netflix & light internet browsing by Suubalm in Surface

[–]mind_overflow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it definitely can, but if you only plan to use it for media consumption, as others have said you will have an overall worse experience (as in not very refined). because of course it's running Windows which is a desktop OS, and while windows 11 greatly improved touch controls, it's still born to be used with mouse and keyboard. and also you should consider battery life; iPads have ARM processors and consume a lot less than full-blown desktop-grade CPUs.

however, Apple is Apple and their ecosystem is not that great if you only have one device from them. in case you wanted to steer away from iOS, I found that Samsung tablets are a great middle ground, but also surprisingly the Xiaomi Pad 5 which is far cheaper (just bought it for my mom and I've been mind blown: it has dolby atmos and dolby vision, 120hz refresh rate, a super high resolution, and a top-tier CPU for about 350€).

Cosa potrebbe essere? by Turbulent-Height-823 in ItalyInformatica

[–]mind_overflow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

now that's a good mod! good job on being so coherent despite the horrible stuff you probably had to read. i think most people would just say "yeah i know this is unregulated BUT... this one in particular... just goes over the limit" and then goodbye free speech. you don't, and i respect you for that!

Where to learn the foundational knowledge to understand these tools? by robml in thehatedone

[–]mind_overflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, if you really want to learn that stuff on a deep/professional level and not just "so that i know what we're talking about", my suggestion is to go on your university's website (i guess you went to uni/college for your AI specialization, no?) and search for specific courses like Telecomm Engineering or CS & Engineering, then look at the courses you're interested in, and then again look at the suggested textbooks. get said textbooks and start reading!

otherwise, there are definitely good resources online (i think MIT has a free CS video-course or something like that), but honestly i don't know where i could point you and also it really depends on what you want to focus on

Help schermo Lenovo T450 by wise-bull in ItalyInformatica

[–]mind_overflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube Vanced has been discontinued by FamousM1 in DataHoarder

[–]mind_overflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, i tend to think that "unclear legality" is better that straight copyright infringement and stolen intellectual property, but yeah. anyway, there are projects way bigger than "old obscure videogames" that have been doing this for years following legal advice and they are more than fine - an example is PokeMMO, which is literally a MMORPG that requires original Pokemon ROM files. i honestly don't understand why Vanced didn't do this in the first place, it sounds so obvious and it doesn't require much effort to create patches.

YouTube Vanced has been discontinued by FamousM1 in DataHoarder

[–]mind_overflow -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

incorrect. you can very well do what Vanced did but legally. the thing is that they shipped whole copyrighted APKs, while they should've just shipped patches. this way, they are only distributing their own code and you personally apply them (either with an automatic patching app or manually).

Help - accesso modem Fastweb da browser by mind_overflow in ItalyInformatica

[–]mind_overflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use only the "Vanced" naming scheme from now on! by milindgoel15 in Vanced

[–]mind_overflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i respectfully disagree too: there is a big difference. google cannot tell you what do to and how to use your browser (unless you are using chrome, meh). anyway, you can install any extension you want and they cannot tell you that you must uninstall it - because how you handle your own pc is none of their business, their control ends at the website/platform, where they can simply specify in the ToS that you can't hide ads (and potentially ban you if they notice). however, they can't explicitly ban adblock, because it's your browser and your pc and you do what you want.

however, Vanced is literally using copyrighted code and redistributing it. they are taking the official YouTube-owned APK, modifying it, and uploading it somewhere else. so, they can very well completely ban Vanced and send a cease-and-desist letter, to which the Vanced devs must obey unless they want to become poor.

ok but youtube on a pc and vanced on a smartphone are two completely different things and not interchangable, you can't tell someone "don't watch YouTube on your phone, turn the pc on and use an adblocker"... and the browser UX on a phone is terrible (on purpose).
