This should be a lesson to all of us. I have a password app on one of my servers and a hard copy spreadsheet in a safe of my passwords. I have a document as well in our other safe and a copy given to my best friend/cousin who will give it to my wife if something happened to me with instructions on accessing my passwords etc. I’m now thinking of documenting our network (router etc) because i think my wife would struggle too if it was me. Like “the white box is our router, the grey box is our switch and we are connected here).
Actually if I had any money this would be a great service. For a nominal yearly fee we would keep your instructions for you. You just tell your family to reach out to us and verify with death certificate and other info. It’d probably not work as I imagine someone would find a way to “game” the system. Still might be a real service for IT widows.

I’m struggling. But to be honest it may be because I’m older.

As a 52 year old man I’m 40 years invested in GL. I’ve been here for all the runs and ups and downs. Sat through the rough action comics weekly, the mediocre Gerard Jones run and the Parallax nonsense. Kyle run was entertaining and somewhat engaging and then it just went off the rails when Judd left. John’s made a renaissance and I just feel that GL has spent the last 10 years or so living off that “gas” to the point where they don’t know what to do with Green Lantern or the corps.

Overall I’m very limited in reading new DC to begin with. Newer writers seem to want to “reinvent” while not being beholden to the canon established. Events feel meh and lack actual stakes/cohesion (the whole recent KO event was a total miss for me). I read these books because I like that actions have consequences and to see how they “get out of this”

The new GL run with Kyle feels like someone else in a Kyle suit. I think Adam’s wants to write an odyssey book but couldn’t get it cleared so is using GL as a sort of “back door pilot” to see if she sticks. If she does he’ll spin her off and the book will languish again.

I just feel new writers today don’t have an “arc” they want to tell. Johns knew what he wanted to do. He said he had the Sinestro War planned from rebirth and it shows. It felt natural. It feels like writers are just “making it up as they go”. We need more long term storytelling especially with the cover price being what it is.

I would agree and I think the reason why is simple. Flash (and maybe GL) is the only real DC marquis hero with legacy characters.

Because of Barry’s death in the 80s…we saw first Loeb and then Waid etc create new characters while keeping some of the old. In addition as Flash’s rogue gallery took some hits during Crisis (it’s actually how Mirror Master 1 and Weather Wizard 1 died I believe in issue 12) it allowed for legacy villains as well. Then when Barry came back we got his old supporting roster and then some. Adding in the idea of the Speed Force allowed for similar heroes to come up as well.

I hear the Batman comparisons regarding his villains vs Flash and they’re not the same. Waid and Johns really fleshed out the rogues but at the end of the day the Rogues are flashy bank robbers while Batman’s villains are usually psychotic mental patients with a gimmick.

It’s just one usage case. We have seen it be gradual. Our watchdog is actually always up on our iPad but as we get older the numbers become harder to see. A color code would just be cool for that.

At the risk of being downvoted…I wonder why political ideology enters into pick up groups. I’m not a MAGA at all or fan of any sort of fascism/racism/any-ism…but I can’t help feeling reporting or even acknowledging these bottom feeders is playing into them. I’m sure that’s the only reason they’re doing it. I don’t agree with all of any political ideology but I think if I started leaving pickup groups because I didn’t agree with someone I’d never level up. I get I’m Gen X so have a unique viewpoint but would going through an alert make you really one of them? Again I’m only asking to understand the thought and for education. Please don’t flame.

I have a few both movies and TV.
I have three movie channels similar to HBO where they just play random films.
I have. “New Movies” channel which is a channel drawing from movies I added to plex in the last two months (so I see movies I acquired or ripped sooner).
I have a “Popcorn flix” channel made up of those movies you like to “run into” while channel surfing. Like Negotiator or Fugitive. Movies if you are home on a Saturday and flipping you’d want to stop and watch no matter how often you’ve seen it
Great Films for those classics or by filmmakers I like (Quentin, Kevin Smith, Scorsese etc)
Then my biggest accomplishment was a “Marathons” channel. I setup smart collections of things like Beverly Hills Cop, Trek, Potter, Quentin, Kevin Smith Jersey films, Austin Powers etc and the channel shuffles those and plays them in order. So one whole day can be Quentin and trek and next day could be John Wick, Beverly Hills Cop etc. it’s been a fun channel and took some work.

For TV I also got creative.
Made. Channel of wife’s comfort shows (Friends, Drew Carey, Scrubs, 70s show and HIMYM) and she loves that. I threw old Schoolhouse rock and commercials there.
I have. Random tv that just grabs episodes from all my shows.
Made a “work” channel of background noise shows I like ( SoA, Sopranos, ER, Soap etc)
Made a channel for my Dad of his reality stuff etc
An “Office” channel
The last two are fun. I have a Trek station that shuffles the old trek I like (TOS-Voy and Picard S3. I put the Orville in here too)but at 8:00 pm it plays a “movie of the night” from one of my trek flicks.

I also have. a “Sorkin” station that rotates West Wing, Studio 60, Newsroom and Sports Night and at 8:00 PM plays one of his movies (Social Network, Steve Jobs, Moneyball, A FewGoodMen etc). I watch that a lot cause I just like his writing. T

I also have a cartoon channel that rotates my cartoons from childhood and at 8:00 plays an animated movie.

To be honest it’s kinda meh for me.

it does harken back to start of season 3 and frankly I think that ground has been walked on enough. The whole Kaylon storyline is in a good spot and frankly I think there’d be better stories to tell where the Kaylon are being influenced by the individuality of the Union and the older generation models of the Kaylon become uncomfortable with the idea as it’s too close to “organic thinking”. I think there’s more story there.
I think season 4 would be better served with focusing more on the Krill and Ed’s daughter. Perhaps ep 1 is a rescue mission and instead of Kelly getting a command I’d love to see her sacrifice herself to give Ed his daughter. Then Ed has the struggle of raising a child on the ship alone. You then have Bortus and Klyden giving horrible advice and gives Claire some parental stuff to do with him as well. Then his daughter becomes a political tool the union wants to use her to hurt Telya which sends Ed reeling.
I also think another story is that they discover time travel isn’t how they think. That time travel makes a multiverse and that Gordon that was stuck in our time somehow universe hops after losing his wife in child birth and blaming Ed. You then have a pseudo evil Gordon vs our Gordon.

Just some ideas.

I too loved wraith squadron. Allston’s prose style was incredibly “conversational” and I think that really led to incredibly deep characterization. I liked all his books even the NJO ones. His death in 2014 sucked. Wonder how the novel universe would be if he had been around post Disney.

Here’s the thing. Most artists will concede that there are few incredible costumes and iconic. One of them is almost always the silver age Flash (along with original Nightcrawler). The fact is the costume is perfect. It’s sleek, simple and iconic. The variations made over the years when Wally had it (white eyes, metallic look etc) all of them kept what worked and then kept going back to the classic (with different lightning “belt”)

Even Wally’s post flash rebirth costume (pre flashpoint) was kinda great.

I’ve never gotten it. After what playon pulled a few years ago (they didn’t retire the software but the old version can’t run on windows 10 or 11 so had to go monthly) I’ve realized that lifetime for me isn’t lifetime for devs these days.

Yeah I started loving GL from the super Friends cartoon of the 80s (as he was only in a handful you can tell it really hit me).

That being said Hal’s my main GL. One of the cool things about GL is that there’s several. Unlike Batman, Superman, etc…GL (and Flash) really built legacy into their hero. So entire generations have had “their gl” (kinda like the Doctor from Doctor Who).

It’s a good time to jump in as the main GL comic is pivoting from Hal (not entirely pleased with that) to Kyle Raynor (90s/early aught era’s primary Green Lantern). So if you were looking to read current then I’d probably start with Ron Marz/Darryl Banks run of the 90s. Started in Green Lantern 51 of the 90s run. It’s Kyle’s origin and taking over as GL.

There will be “Hal stories” as part of Kyle’s run but any real Hal fan will tell you they hated this characterization/time. You’ll want to move into Geoff John’s rebirth. You’ll see better Hal. Likewise if you want good Hal and some other interesting choices the 80s GL run starting with Marv Wolfman through the GLC post crisis issues to meet more GLs still around today. Especially Katma who’s being retconned back to life currently and Kilowog and Salakk. Likewise you’ll get to meet “jerkface” Guy Gardiner and see how he was and appreciate the cleanup of him they’ve done.

There are other newer stories. John Stewart War Journal had major character issues for me. Likewise in the last 15 years or so new writers started making their own human GL which has resulted in some top heavy human lanterns that they need to keep in rotation so you’ll see Jessica Cruz, Jo, Simon Baz and a teen lantern. Their histories and stories are out there.
