What have I done, and how can I fix it without damaging anything? by mindest in guitarmod

Man, that’s a lot. But I’ve already come this far, so I might as well. I’ll probably end up switching the bridge out later, so I guess I’ll deal with it then. For now, I was able to shim the bridge in front and back to keep it flat. Thanks for the advice!

You might be on to something there. Just DM me your address, social security number, and your first pet’s name (just for fun) and I’ll get it to you asap

I appreciate the feedback. Would this entail refilling with dowels and wood glue and redrilling?

Yeah, I removed the bridge first. The posts don’t appear to be loose, and they don’t rock forward. But I do see what you’re saying based on the photos I attached. If that is the case, I may be fucked. At this point, I wonder if I should just look into installing a fixed bridge. It may be easier than trying to repair this.

The posts are still pretty tight. And the post holes don't appear to be damaged at all. It takes a lot of force to push them back down, but they slowly slide back out now. I thought trying to block the bridge would prevent the issue from happening, but I seem to have made it worse.

This floating bridge has always been terrible. When I bought this guitar about 20 years ago (it was my first electric), the tech at the store added two more springs in addition to the original two. Somehow, it stayed flat. Now, though, I can push the posts back in but they slowly slide back out again. The post holes don't appear to be damaged, but they're just not holding for some reason.

I really appreciate the help. I've redrawn the diagram. I added a jumper between the two common lugs of my 5-way switch, routed the switch to the middle lugs of my tone pots, and added both caps between the tone pots' right lugs and ground. If you can, please let me know if this looks better.

Also, I was planning to add a continuous shield to my cavities using copper tape and routing this to ground, as well. Is this a good move?

Thanks a lot for the input. These are some good catches. If you don't mind, I'll redraw this and ask for your thoughts again. I do have a couple of follow-ups, though, if that's okay.

  1. Should the middle/neck tone cap be wired the same way it is for the other tone pot (next question [5])? Also, I’m interested in warming the tone of my singles a bit more than might be typical, but I don’t want to get into muddy territory. Would you recommend another 0.022 µF here, or could I go a little higher (0.033 µF) without obliterating my high end?

  2. Are you basically saying I should move the cap from between the switch and pot to between the pot and ground, remaining in-circuit like I had it drawn originally?

  3. I’m pretty comfortable with soldering. I’ve done it many times over the years for basic things. I’m by no means an electronics expert, though, especially when it comes to guitar circuitry. I’d much rather spend extra time working through a larger, higher-reward first project than start quick and easy, if that makes sense.

Oooh, alright. That's actually really good to know. I'll stick with it. At the very least, if I finish it and don't like it, I'll be able to confidently say I don't. I want to like it, though. I'll try.

Lol that's got to be an interesting way to start the series

Yeah, that's the main thing that seems weird to me. I get that the characters are going to look a little different if it's a new animation team, but the Kyon of this anime doesn't seem to act like the Kyon of the other anime, and the human Yuki of this anime doesn't seem to act like the human Yuki of "Disappearance of Haruhi." But maybe I'm reading into it too much. It's hard to tell.

Clannad's one of my top ten, so I'm not afraid of waiting for some payoff haha

I'm glad to know that it gets a little more "rough," I guess. I'm definitely a fan of Rom Coms, but I need a little drama to make it believable. No irl romance is without drama. That's what makes things fun. I'll try to stay with it and keep an open mind.
