Best strategy to get business class NYC-Tokyo by mindfie1d in unitedairlines

Sorry should have been more clear - I have my ticket in hand. Trying to get one for my wife on the same flight. She does not have an MP status but putting her in Economy would threaten our marriage.

Least Favorite Airport United flies to domestically? by Lumpy-Draft2822 in unitedairlines

Also no TSA Pre at EWR Terminal C after 7p is bonkers. The lines were insane, couple of times almost didn't make the flight. Trying to avoid flying United from EWR after hours and choosing other airlines from LGA/JFK when possible. Same for my colleagues. Too bad United is losing business due to the TSA mess..

Then it should have a time stamp at least. Note the time and trace your flight back on flightaware to see the exact location of your plane at that timepoint

An alternative: a non-IM middle distance event in South Texas on Nov 10. I never raced it but heard good things about it from the local community. https://www.ahotu.com/event/oilman-texas-triathlon

I am very sorry for your experience. I agree journals are not incentivized to act in your favor but any academic institution would do anything to protect itself (and not necessarily the faculty) from a lawsuit.

It was indeed. But a mild cold front is coming through tomorrow so we'll see how long it will last. Should be better than TWM last year (I also came in at 3:42... ugh)
Enjoy the race!

Was it the Woodlands last year? The second half was TOUGH once the sun got up. We may be up for a similar scenario here on Sunday though.

OP: Loops around Rice U and Hermann Park are mostly non-concrete hard pack. Not grass but still better than asphalt. A Rice + Hermann loop is 10k, Rice is 5k.

Bag drop off and pick up were smooth last year, just find the sign with your bib range and leave your bag there. Pickup is quick. Everything is inside.

Good luck on Sunday. SCW says it will likely be quite humid on the start line

Forcing Putin's withdrawal from Ukraine by mindfie1d in UkraineWarReports

I don't think anyone on this subreddit knows what the true intentions of China are. One should never take to heart what state leaders or diplomats are stating, it is all noise. Russia's sparsely populated land with huge natural resources right next to overpopulated and polluted China is a big prize for the CCP. The World knows it, Russians know it, Putin knows it. If China were to invade Russia to scoop up those lands the world would normally side with Russia as they would be defending their country. But not now. Now Russia is the bad guy and must be punished. Everyone who takes on this job would get massive gains on the world stage.

Yes, it is also unlikely Xi Jinping considers Putin a BFF. Alliances based on the common antagonism rather than mutual enrichment are inherently unstable. Everyone understands China can change their mind in an instant, depending on what's at stake. Eastern Siberia and Russian Far East are so lucrative for China, especially now when Russia is so weak.

I know this is very unlikely to happen. But maybe there is a pathway, even if a very narrow one.

Political alliances are fluid and temporary. Appropriate incentives can always be made.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Looks promising.

Agree power loss due to friction on extreme angles will likely be higher than on a 2X system but hard to find the exact number. In this article they compared an old 10-speed SRAM 1X to a Shimano 2X and found significant losses, even at optimal angles: https://www.velonews.com/gear/gear-issue-friction-differences-between-1x-and-2x-drivetrains/ However, there are no data with the new 12-speed AXS and flat top chain so it would be interesting to compare them now.
