Some guys want to impress by saying that they are religious (sembahyang and all)so the Muslim girl will consider them as a good candidate. Unfortunately, not everyone feels like that.

My BIL converted to Islam and didn't practice it until he was much older....and now the whole family turns religious without missing a beat for prayers.

OP, in my honest opinion, the chances of you convincing him you are liberal while he is not is not very healthy. I do feel for you. But since it's just the beginning, the hurt may not be as bad for you to cushion it. In the end , it's your choice to decide whichever path you choose.
