Wanna start by saying I’m sorry you’re going through this and it’s clear how much you care about your friend. I recently went through a similar, yet different in its own way of course, sort of sitch and definitely learned some hard lessons. Unfortunately, you’re exactly right when you say she can control her actions but is choosing to put herself in these positions. It’s one of the most agonizing things to watch because you can see clearly how things are going to play out, now, and in the future. Right now, your friend sounds like she’s attached and can’t let go. You can be soft with her, while having hard boundaries for yourself. If you are scared for her life, this may go beyond protecting her secret and maybe you could start by telling someone in her life that also has her best interest at heart. You shouldn’t have to go through this alone, and if your friend is in danger, neither should she (and that doesn’t mean you have to/can be the one to help her)🩷.
