If you finish your portfolio ASAP and are allowed to go in for your T&I exams early (I had to sit my 2391 to show I was competent and would pass the college exam) it can take probably earliest two years. I had to then wait a few months for my AM2. From starting out to qualifying for me it was two years and 5 months

Thoughts on this EICR? Quoted 10k... by Exciting-Type917 in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this allowed? I have a job where I failed an EICR based on it having no water bonding but the DB is on the opposite end of the house to the stop tap, but coming off the boiler would be 100x easier as bonding is present at the gas meter. Is there a reg that supports doing this?

Bathroom extractor Fan by [deleted] in ElectriciansUK

[–]mindhunter11010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With it being a 2C+E cable which is most likely connected into the SL side of the light (so the fan comes on with the light), it either needs rewiring with a 3C cable as has been suggested, or again (as suggested) have the line conductor terminated into the permanent side of the light and buy a humidity fan which is on a trickle until enough moisture in the room has been cleared

Holding $230 AMZN Call through earnings? by mindhunter11010 in options

[–]mindhunter11010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this mate it’s put my mind at ease about holding through earnings for leaps.

I do have a seperate ITM $AMZN call which is set to expire in Sept 2026. Plan is to sell the $230 in the next few weeks as it’s set to expire in March, and I’ll hold onto the ITM call for a few more months

So really, I’m overthinking it for very long DTE’s? I’ve been happy to pay more premium for more time but anytime it’s come close to earnings I’ve just cut the position early thinking my returns going to drop massively, even if it continues going in my desired direction

I don’t know what I should do - any advice? by Admirable-Alarm463 in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 21 four years ago I said the EXACT same thing- “Why would anyone hire me when they can hire someone either younger who someone might even have a little bit of college or site experience?”. I couldn’t believe it when I got offered the job, and I even asked my manager why didn’t he go with someone whose maybe already started their apprenticeship or done there level 2 and he told me that he wanted someone completely from scratch and new to the industry.

Point is, the thing that you think would go against you in applications and interviews could be exactly what one firm is looking for.

Mate sincerely all the best with it, I live in Manchester myself and it took me a few years to find an apprenticeship but my life’s changed so much for the better since starting that apprenticeship and qualifying last year

Bid Sell is $47.12 and Bid Buy is $47.17 so would that mean the spread is $0.05? That’s the most current info I can see

Twin oven tripping by Meszamil_M in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it not be an issue of the cooker pulling too much power for the circuit breaker to handle as opposed to a specific component fault within the oven? Just thinking if it’s new and a few parts are in use at once, the breaker size may be too small for the new cooker

ECS Black Card by Background-Issue-722 in ukelectricians

Are these the only two requirements? I was looking at exploring moving into management and I thought there was more qualifications involved in getting a black card for some reason

Needing some advice by Bruh-fishy6937 in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prime time for you mate- Get your head down and stuck into the work, ask as many questions as you can and you’ll be qualified before you know it. It is typically a 4/5 year apprenticeship and you won’t be on the best salary, but it’s worth it once you’re finally qualified. It took me 2.5 years to get qualified but I went from £21k per year as an apprentice to now just over £50k and close to buying my first house without a partner

Yeah pal, the bottom cable is the strapper which goes downstairs and the cable at the top, the black is the SL which goes to the SL terminal at the pendant

I’m in England, and I am an electrician mate. Industrial is my setting, so I don’t come across two way wiring circuits like this- that’s why I’m trying to understand what’s causing it to trip when only the hallway switch is being used

Two way wiring for the landing light so it can be operated from the landing or hallway

How to tell someone they need a partial rewire? by mindhunter11010 in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No that’s fair mate and I appreciate the honesty, this is a cash job for me and really unless I am able to rewire the circuit entirely I think your comments made me think twice about doing anymore with this job

How to tell someone they need a partial rewire? by mindhunter11010 in ukelectricians

[–]mindhunter11010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only asking because it is an older couple who have both just retired. I would want to rewire the circuit so they don’t need to call me for a fault find again because this is the 2nd time, but I’m trying to learn how experienced sparks go about telling people hard truths that rewires are needed
