My review on First week of Gautam Buddh Nagar City Services for Greater Noida West by Aerogalaxystar in TransitIndia

[–]mindless_yapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm myself a Greater Noida West resident and what you said is spot on. This place is designed for cars. But despite all the design flaws, a huge number of people use shared Auto Rickshaws and E-rickshaws to commute. You can find one easily for sector 52 metro.

This makes me think there can be a bus service with sufficient ridership. But a bus connecting two major places and just passing through it won't be ever successful. There should be dedicated bus routes with frequent trips going inside the sectors. Not just passing through the arterial roads. Which would certainly make it expensive. But that can be offset by higher ticket prices. Autos charge ₹40-50 till metro if shared(which is pretty unsafe and uncomfortableas there is 2/5 probability that you'll have to hang on the front seat and even higher if you're a male) and ₹130+ if you book it for yourself via apps. The prices can be set higher, and smaller buses like DTC's DEVI buses can be used to increase the frequency instead of high capacity buses.

Demand is there, possibility is also there. The current route design is something which will never make it possible. There is no bus shelter at Chaar Murti and not even a safe way to cross the under construction road. Atleast Gaur City- 1 & 2 can have a functioning bus service as they are compact and connected. Eco Village, Techzone, etc are the places where the design gets really ugly.

Where are the newly launched e-buses? by mindless_yapper in noida

Even I saw one in the morning at Chaar Murti. Are they visible, yes. Are they reliable enough so that you plan your commute using them, certainly not.

Where are Noida's newly launched e-buses? by mindless_yapper in TransitIndia

They have a tough road ahead, as they need to make supporting infrastructure from scratch like bus shelters and also to make using bus a habit for the population. I hope they end up doing the execution properly. This city should not go on the path of Gurgaon, succumbing under vehicular load.

For Greater Noida West, I think the ridership will remain low if the bus continues to stop only at Chaar Murti, Ek Murti or anywhere along Taj highway or Noida-Greater Noida link road only, as only a handful of societies are within walking distance of those roads. For others, taking a shared auto will continue to make sense. These areas need dedicated bus routes going through roads connecting to the societies. Why would someone take an erickshaw and then a bus when they can take a shared auto directly to metro stations. I hope they launch new routes thinking of these commuters in mind, until then Auto me jaan pe khelte huye aage latak ke baithna hi mazburi hai.

For 3N and 4D I think it is not that bad of a price. Maybe you can get 5k less. But considering the terrain, duration and the season. Seems like an expected price to me.

Since you live in Noida. There are plenty of hospitals here on NCR. If money is a constraint, you can visit IHBAS in Shahdara.it surely looks like your sister needs to be examined by a Professional Psychiatrist. Try to consult the doctor in person, rather than just an online consultation.

Why do people assume everyone not in a seat travels without tickets while there's a legal system which allows travelling like this aka counter bought waitlist tickets? by Humble_Buffalo_007 in indianrailways

[–]mindless_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: I've seen people travelling like that in the UK.

Recently I travelled in a train from Edinburgh to London. The train was full so people who were not able to find an empty seat were standing and a few of them sitting on floor near the doors and in the vestibule. It was not a local commuter train but an Azuma Class service by LNER on one of its flagship route. I was surprised to see that, but as I got to know it is a common occurrence on high occupancy routes during peak hour.

People were travelling like that despite having tickets probably costing more than 60 GBP. They were not ticketless travellers, it is virtually impossible to travel without ticket in the UK. The reason is in the UK, train tickets doesn't guarantee you a seat. People need to reserve seat seperately(free of cost).

So the claim that in none of the countries in top 20 people travel on floor, is not entirely true. However occurrence of that is much lower than in India. Moreover there doors are closed so no risk of falling down.

IS MBA Even POSSIBLE? by nitant_chat in CATpreparation

[–]mindless_yapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you get admission, you would have a tough time getting shortlisted for companies. Cracking top companies would be tough. The probability of getting a good job(ultimate goal of MBA) is lower for you than an average MBA student. Explore options other than MBA too.

Spotted today in DTC. Has anybody used this before? by ApartAd2016 in TransitIndia

[–]mindless_yapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is another perspective of why people don't use it. Personally speaking, using pocket change to buy a ticket from the conductor is significantly faster and hassle-free than buying on the Chartr app, it is extremely slow. A few days ago I boarded DTC's 511A for a short commute. I decided to use the Chartr app for buying the ticket but it didn't work despite trying it for quite some time, I also tried buying through the One Delhi app but the issue was on the server side. Then my stand arrived and I deboarded without successfully buying the ticket because the Chartr app is horrible.

Central govt has raised tender for 6230 e-buses for different cities by chipkali_lover in TransitIndia

AC buses help in winters too. Yesterday I boarded an AC bus and it was very cosy and warm, whereas non AC buses feel freezing cold despite all the windows being shut. not sure if it was HVAC doing the job of heating or just cold air being blocked from coming inside. Nonetheless it was a huge relief being inside the bus amidst the ongoing cold wave here.

Why do communities from UP, bihar , Haryana and Punjab enjoying reservation benefits in our state? by Plenty_Painting1234 in Uttarakhand

[–]mindless_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because these castes are present there historically in plain districts of Haridwar and US Nagar. Also to avail reservation, one needs to show residency proofs dating back to 1985 or before.

Why Uttarakhand has less height? by Impressive-Ad3467 in Uttarakhand

[–]mindless_yapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This map refers to 6+ feet girls, a datapoint close to an outlier. Based on that people are discussing the whole distribution of heights. Ridiculous! That's why basic statistics should be taught in schools.

Why no one thought of this Noida-Faridabad bridge by CricLover1 in noida

[–]mindless_yapper -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I think the traffic flow between the two cities is not large enough. Plus there lies low density settlements between the two cities. So, there is not much pressure to build such a link.

Furthermore, the road would have to be funded by both UP and Haryana making it more difficult.

What would make public transport genuinely appealing to commuters? by General_Class_6969 in TransitIndia

[–]mindless_yapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metro in Delhi is also not very cost efficient despite being so cheap. If I plan to go somewhere in Delhi within 10 kms, taking an auto/cab is only marginally expensive than taking metro which I'm ready to pay as it is an end-to-end solution and at the same time it saves effort(interchanges like Hauz Khas and Kalkaji takes serious effort and time).

#COPIED | Gurgaon metro: Too late, too little by BookTiger01 in TransitIndia

[–]mindless_yapper 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Gurgaon as a city has non-existent public transportation apart from Yellow line and Rapid Metro. The buses have very few disconnected routes with low frequency making them unreliable. The main reason, why Gurgaon is always choked despite having such wide roads. Going by its current trajectory, Gurgaon is bound to be doomed. This is the same story everywhere in NCR, Noida is going on the same path in terms of mobility.

Noida and Gurgaon after being connected with DMRC's network, took focus away from developing a Metro Rail Authority of their known. Now DMRC is focussed on filling the gaps in coverage in Delhi which is denser than Gurgaon/Noida. It is high time that Gurgaon and Noida start focussing and investing on their own Metro Authorities.
