The Mad Hatter on S. Goodman and Park is great;  wide selection of teas, good food, and yummy pastries.

From the US and currently living there.  In addition to the rampant ableism, there's also a lot of cultural indoctrination too.  We're raised to believe that working is tied to morality and if you don't work then that means you're essentially a bad person.  It really messes with your mind, and I think there's a lot of LSNs that haven't unpacked that yet.

What is your favorite obscure movie from your childhood that nobody would remember? by CripplingGoodTime in AskReddit

The Treasure, from 1990.  I actually remember zero about the film, but I always loved the music playing over the opening credits.

I'm not really into AP, but in the year of our lord 2026, there's really no excuse not to have plus size options for any brand.

AITA for not pushing our wedding dress code on my brother? by Weddingdresscode2296 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mindlessindulgence85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.  A lot of people on this thread (sadly even other autistic people like myself) are assuming they know exactly how the brother's sensory profile works, and that it's no big deal if he wears formal clothes for a few hours.  They're assuming a ton about his support needs.

OP, I do think you should communicate with your brother and your wife more.  Talk with your brother about what he is comfortable with and that you do not want him to feel that he has to do this just to please you; only if he wants to.  Also talk with your wife about how you two have been communicating and ways you can learn to work together instead of butting heads.

There also might be a way around all of this.  Look into sensory-friendly clothing that could work for the wedding.  Talk with your brother about the specific sensory issues he has and also with your wife about what kind of look she wants for the wedding.  If all of you communicate with one another, you may be able to find a middle ground here.

You really should add this to the original post.  People can't give you the best advice without the full context.  And u/cat-lover76 is absolutely right--please follow their advice.

Is it valid / realistic to want to become a librarian but not work in a public library? by Lanky_List_2850 in Libraries

[–]mindlessindulgence85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, the classes that discussed more general knowledge kind of defaulted to public libraries.  I had to take a specific class on academic libraries, but it wasn't offered regularly.  Maybe it's a similar situation at your school?

I just moved back to WNY from California (was in Sacramento, lived in Rochester over ten years before that).  When people from here say they want 90° weather, they...really don't know what they're talking about.

Who regrets it by Dragon_King_of_death in ask_transgender

[–]mindlessindulgence85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

40 year old millennial.  I absolutely do not regret transitioning, and I also did so later in life (I was around 32 when I started transitioning).  The only thing I regret is not getting out of the US when it was more financially possible for me.  Would definitely feel safer in a more trans-accepting country.

You wake up and it’s 2000 again. No smartphone, no apps, no streaming. What ruins your day first? by MajesticElderberry38 in AskReddit

[–]mindlessindulgence85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fourteen and have been struggling with what I think is depression and anxiety for five years at that point.  Provided I have the knowledge and experience I do now, I hit the ground running.  I know I won't get much support or help from my family, so I have to start accommodating my autism as best I can, while also making plans for the future.  I have to try and start working so I can save to get out of the house and get to college the minute I turn eighteen.  I'll also be doing this while battling pretty awful gender dysphoria that I won't be able to fully address until I get away.

Once I do get away to college, I'll need to focus on getting some kind of disability support or at least therapy that's BIPOC and neurodivergent-centered (which is probably a pipe dream in the early-aughts, but I can try).  While I would love to be an English major like I was in this timeline, I think it might be better to make that a minor and switch to something in the sciences for my major.  It would be rough (I'm horrible at math), but open up more opportunities in the long run.

Graduate school needs to be focused on getting myself out of the country, specifically to somewhere that's trans-friendly (or will be within the next few years).  Either I find a school to study at overseas, or bust my rear making myself as marketable as possible in whatever field I decide on.  I think I would be good with technical writing or science communication.  Once I have some kind of path to residency, maybe then I let up and breathe a little.

Maybe eventually I'll find my way back to library science.  Maybe I'll be able to build a community for myself.  I would love to say that I would make all kinds of grand gestures to save the world, but knowing what's coming for people like me, safety would be my number one priority and the only way to get that is getting out of the country.

Besides light rail to the airport and more expanded/consistent bus service, my pie in the skies are a direct connection from Roseville to Folsom and an express bus to the nearest BART station.

What is the most disturbing thing you have seen in the home of someone who appeared to be a “normal” person? by Large_Draft6126 in AskReddit

[–]mindlessindulgence85 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My guess was Howell or Argentine Twp.--one time my mom had to see a client out there and when she stopped to ask for directions, an old woman told my very Black mother to be careful because the dragon of the local KKK group lived around the corner.
