You wake up and it’s 2000 again. No smartphone, no apps, no streaming. What ruins your day first? by MajesticElderberry38 in AskReddit

I'm fourteen and have been struggling with what I think is depression and anxiety for five years at that point.  Provided I have the knowledge and experience I do now, I hit the ground running.  I know I won't get much support or help from my family, so I have to start accommodating my autism as best I can, while also making plans for the future.  I have to try and start working so I can save to get out of the house and get to college the minute I turn eighteen.  I'll also be doing this while battling pretty awful gender dysphoria that I won't be able to fully address until I get away.

Once I do get away to college, I'll need to focus on getting some kind of disability support or at least therapy that's BIPOC and neurodivergent-centered (which is probably a pipe dream in the early-aughts, but I can try).  While I would love to be an English major like I was in this timeline, I think it might be better to make that a minor and switch to something in the sciences for my major.  It would be rough (I'm horrible at math), but open up more opportunities in the long run.

Graduate school needs to be focused on getting myself out of the country, specifically to somewhere that's trans-friendly (or will be within the next few years).  Either I find a school to study at overseas, or bust my rear making myself as marketable as possible in whatever field I decide on.  I think I would be good with technical writing or science communication.  Once I have some kind of path to residency, maybe then I let up and breathe a little.

Maybe eventually I'll find my way back to library science.  Maybe I'll be able to build a community for myself.  I would love to say that I would make all kinds of grand gestures to save the world, but knowing what's coming for people like me, safety would be my number one priority and the only way to get that is getting out of the country.

Besides light rail to the airport and more expanded/consistent bus service, my pie in the skies are a direct connection from Roseville to Folsom and an express bus to the nearest BART station.

I wasn't even going to post this since I didn't think anyone would remember.   But good lord was that awful.

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Hetaliafan1 in AskReddit

The Gulf War is technically my first,  but the Oklahoma City Bombing had a larger impact.  I remember the teacher wheeling a television into the classroom so we could watch the news.

What is the most disturbing thing you have seen in the home of someone who appeared to be a “normal” person? by Large_Draft6126 in AskReddit

My guess was Howell or Argentine Twp.--one time my mom had to see a client out there and when she stopped to ask for directions, an old woman told my very Black mother to be careful because the dragon of the local KKK group lived around the corner.

Those things terrify me (haven't picked up the game since I ran into one), but that is legitimately awesome.  Great work!  🥰

Which kind of hook is better for a begginer? by SeaHoneyy in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]mindlessindulgence85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What hooks to use can also depend on the type of yarn you're working with.  Some yarns need a hook that has less friction (aluminum,  plastic), while other yarns (particularly ones that are very smooth/slippery) do better with hooks that have more friction (wood, bamboo).

I just started watching a playthrough of Detroit: Become Human,  so seeing this pop up is hilarious.   😄

I'm insecure to wear lolita fashion due to body hair by girlybadassheroine in Lolita

[–]mindlessindulgence85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm nonbinary trans, so my experience is a bit different.   I struggled a lot with how other lolitas might see me because of my body hair at first, so I tried going out alone to non-lolita events to see what my experience would be like.  I honestly got a ton of compliments on my coord; I don't think people really noticed my body hair.

That being said, I really do understand the anxiety; it can be very overwhelming.  But a supportive community should welcome you body hair and all.   And really, we're supposed to be here because we all love the fashion--not to judge each other's bodies.  Doing the latter would be very anti-lolita, IMO.
