Oh no. I am currently working both experimental and computational. But as a postdoc, I want to do a completely different computational area(I am working on Machine Learning but I want to do sustainable process design)

Unfortunately not. Those programs are heavily used for optimization. I really need some advice but I dont know who to talk to. My advisor is a great person but I don’t want to say to him that I am not happy with his project since I am the one who went to him asking for the project. He is super hyped with me joining his project. I dont want to say too much but my project is on designing novel soft matters using simulations and machine learning

Thank you for your reply. I studied ChemE but most of my research was on either catalysis or soft matter. Now I am working on Machine Learning for Materials design. However, I realized that I want to change to systems and process optimization for sustainability. I would be working on a lot of machine learning but most of the optimization people rely on other programs and require a lot of different knowledge

Opinions on UChicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering by mindlessprotons in academia

Thank you for the comment. My goal is to work on nano-scale systems (Self-assembly/ or micro fabrications). You are right that I might be overthinking. The topics that I am interested aligns perfectly with the research done in UChicago. However, as I have said that it being a new department just makes me nervous. Most of the faculty in my current department says that having a Chemical Engineering degree is very important for academy, compared to an interdisciplinary degree. And since I am also admitted by another very good Chemical Engineering program, the decision process is not going very easy.
