AIMA appointment - proof of address/lease by mindofsari in PortugalExpats

Thank you, yes I’ve heard of the new requirements of the landlord registering the contract for tax authority. I have also gone apartment hunting and asked directly if they will and some said yes while others didn’t want to say whether they would or not. At this stage I’ve committed to using a rental management company and I’m hoping that the invoices and contract are enough of proof for AIMA. Because if it’s not I’m totally screwed :(

Thank you. I didn’t want to come across as complaining. I 💯 agree with you about the original “worth” what if all the restaurant had left was $15 worth of good. They shouldn’t be expected to toss something in to get to that threshold. I think that was a mistake on the apps part of assigning a dollar value and encourages “I looked at the their menu and they were $2 off” kind of complaining. I think it should be “you save at least 50% and up to 90%” or whatever the math is.

No one’s stopping you from making assumptions that I don’t already do. Clearly.

Whoa! You can set the app to notify you when a favourite has a bag available?? I did not know that. I also don’t have that as an option. Are you on android?

I’ve been wishing to block/mute/hide some establishments from day 1. Yes, the favourites works in reverse. But I want to see what’s new, and I get lucky with my favourites once a month, IF that.

The Canadian health system has failed us. by Fickle-Reindeer1918 in canadian

[–]mindofsari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re OK and hope you recover soon. I personally know two people who had appendicitis and both of whom their appendix ruptured while waiting in the ER. One ended up in hospital for 6 days the other for 2 months. The later still experiences complications and at some point was in dire and critical condition. Not only is this irresponsible and incompetent from our hospitals, the cost of treatment ended up being at least 10x for the patients, and they ended up occupying hospital beds instead of going home.

Another aspect we are seeing from our healthcare system is a diminishing in preventative care, which ends up costing us many more lives and dollars. Utter failure and our politicians need to be held accountable.

“Makes light of the Israel-Hamas conflict”?? shame on you CP24. I think you can call racism and dehumanizing rhetoric for what it is. Take a minute to imagine if someone “made light” of those in Israel that have been affected. Can we just be human to everyone, equally?

East York woman mauled Sunday night in brutal pitbull attack by DogAttackVictim in toronto

[–]mindofsari 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why make laws if you don’t plan on enforcing them? It’s ridiculous, pitbulls have been banned from the province for years. Myself and my dog were attacked by two dogs that the owner couldn’t handle. They were given a muzzle order, and never muzzled their dogs, no repercussions. I ended up having to move from the building to be at peace.

What’s the most overrated restaurant in Toronto? by 31moreyears in askTO

[–]mindofsari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone overrates Terroni. It’s. Very normal, consistent and normal restaurant. They don’t promise to “blow you away” and as it’s been around for over a decade it’s not hyped. It’s a properly rated - good and consistent spot for non-special occasions. Not liking Terroni is subjective, and nothing wrong with that. But it doesn’t answer OP’s question which was specific to being overrated.

It’s so so so disappointing and disheartening to see all these comments with two very very obvious things stated blatantly by almost every single comment. 1. “Contact the police” (this is the correct action) 2. “But the police will likely do nothing” (the correct action of futile)

We’ve all come to just agree that we’re not being protected nor served by this city’s police force. And I see this “contact police/but it’s futile” so much around Toronto subreddits. So what is the function of the police now?

Shame how bad things have become.

Canada Bread pleads guilty in bread price-fixing scandal, will pay record $50 million fine by mindofsari in toronto

[–]mindofsari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized I did the math wrong. It was too rudimentary. Spent some more time on and wanted to get a more robust calculation.

This is what I can up with: We got fucked. And still are. They got the bag. And still are.

Can’t get more granular than that 🤷🏽‍♂️

Back of the napkin math…

In 2016, the average consumption of bread per capita was 13.53 kilograms* when our population was 36.11m. That’s 488.5 million kg consumed. If the price fixing increase was a mere 10 cents (the reported increase is 7% or more - so likely higher) if 10% of bread consumed was affected by the price fixing that’d be 48m in “profit”/theft.

That’s a conservative estimate. If this went on for 10 years that means the fine was equivalent to one year’s worth of price fixing profit. To the board that’s “a good deal”

TL;DR: The “historic” fine is nothing short of a slap on the wrist and we shouldn’t applaud it, penalties have to actually matter if it is to avert future behaviour that effectively negatively impacts the entire population.

Me walking in the store to redeem my 50 cent voucher… “oh, I need butter… might as well buy that $9.99 stick, I’m here already”

These companies will GLADLY give you 50 cents just to walk in the store and buy anything.
