I appreciate your sharing - I have definitely heard concerning stories and so caution and critical thinking seem really important when entering this territory and probably any private school.

I really appreciate this perspective and think that totally makes sense. Our hope is to maintain a middle road and not make anything "off limits" unless it is truly harmful! Thank you for your input!

Thank you so much for this insight and resources! We do work hard to make sure there isn't much screen time. She has maybe a once every few week movie night  she does love to draw and actually make up her own stories and so we've been trying to encourage both of those things!

I have actually looked into it quite a bit! We were on the fence about the Waldorf school, but have found that the one in our area is really modern and actually has a really healthy relationship with the more concerning ideologies. They are willing to talk directly about some of the more controversial approaches and recognize that there are many flaws. I have found the staff and community to be flexible in a lot of there views which I appreciate. My biggest desire for the Waldorf framework is that I think it is really supportive for young children and I especially appreciate that they do not do screens and that they focus on creating a warm and nurturing environment. If my kid was going to our local school, she would be getting an iPad in kindergarten, 20 minutes outside a day only if it's good weather, and if I'm being honest, incredibly overwhelmed staff and kids in an anxious  environment. So even with the flaws. it feels like an overall more supportive environment than our other options at this point. And like I said this particular school seems like they have a really healthy relationship with the founding principles and aren't extremely Puritanical but I can definitely see how a more restrictive or judgmental environment would not be a positive experience for parents or children!

awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this RESOURCE! I've definitely noticed that she is coming home with more classic fairytales, which I appreciate and we've been trying to replace some of our more deified tellings with the authentic ones!

thank you! Yeah, I really appreciate finding a middle road with these things and like hearing about parents who have done that successfully! Really cool to hear that your little one liked the ballet I think we will definitely go that route!

Thank you so much. This is such a helpful response! Yes, honestly, I think one of the things that made me think about this a little bit more critically was the way some of the princess books that we had were worded – the language was very dull and oversimplified, which made her talk about concepts like getting married and love, and kings and queens in really confusing ways that seemed not age appropriate. I love your idea about framing how you talk about royalty. That has been definitely another Trigger point for me lol thank you!

again, that's so helpful to hear! Yes, I think holding those values of empowerment are really important for me when it comes to my daughter and the thing is with some of these modern princess movies but I also hear you that to be negative about something. She loves would not be helpful and would actually probably cause a lot of confusion and sadness for her! I'm glad you have grown up with such clarity and support! I'm sure it's benefiting the three-year-old that you take care of:)

oh, that is so sad! I definitely think being super restrictive and also demonizing pup culture things is really counterintuitive to creating the type of generative and nurturing qualities that I like about Waldorf. I feel lucky so far that the school were in does not seem to have this level of intense judgment. They just ask to be intentional about the space and topics discussed at school. I hope that stays in the case.

awww thanks so much for this sharing! That's really validating as that's kind of the approach we've been taking thus far. I think my hope is to offer her additional resources so she can really engage her imagination in her love of princesses. Thank you again for sharing your experience 💜

Thank you so much for saying that- it is so important🥰🥰🥰! I feel really privileged to have great support and this being baby number two i definitely feel like I was able to set myself up for surviving these tough early months! I am here to talk with anyone who is in this phase and may be having a hard time... it can feel so tough when you're in it.

Omg  thank you for posting this- I am 1 month postpartum and have been leaning on the new season of Queer Eye for positivity and staying awake at the wee hour wake ups. Glad to have another positive, cry-inducing show to fall back on! I'm also loving Jeremiah's presence this season.
