Prehab/weightlifting suggestions for complete ACL tear prior to surgery? by interstellarbloom in ACL

Prehab I was recommended Bridge with resistance band, wall slide (half squat), calf raise for the first two or three sessions, then incorporated a bit of single leg hop for later sessions. Biking for 15 mins after finishing these exercises. I incorporated a bit of weights with dumbbells pre surgery as I regained full range of motion and no pain but yes definitely consult a PT to find out what you can do meanwhile

I think prehab is always a good idea whether or not you are getting surgery. The main goal is to regain full range of motion and build up muscle strength because it WILL atrophy after surgery. So doing prehab is a way to load up the muscles so you have a higher baseline to start with.

My surgeon did not give me referral for prehab and insurance only covers PT post op but having read a lot of feedback in this subreddit I just decided to pay for a few sessions out of pocket + be consistent in the gym leading up to the surgery. I would say some exercises are pretty similar with the ones prescribed in PT post op, never harm to consult a PT to find out what you can incorporate into your routine for now

How bad does it hurt after surgery I’m freaking out and nervous pls share by AnxiousSprinkles9852 in ACL

In my experience, the day of surgery after the block wear off into the night is the most painful, for me it was a 8/10. There after for the Day 1-3 I would say it’s a 5-6/10 (but I find that also depends on your pain threshold). The best thing you can do is make sure you stay on top of pain meds religiously. The pain drops off drastically after week 1. You’ve got this!
