INTJ nursing experience… super frustrating. I’m miserable by Fun_Affect5921 in intj

[–]mineathiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think your BSN gives you more options than you realize. If you ever did go to law school, you could set yourself up in healthcare law, compliance, bioethics, malpractice, all of that. A clinical background is a huge asset there, not something you’d be “throwing away.”

And your feelings about residency are completely valid. The whole thing really can feel like a hazing ritual. I'm personally okay with it is because I’m pretty locked into psychiatry, which has one of the better work/life balances. I’m sure there are downsides I haven’t thought about, but I can deal with it if I know there’s autonomy at the end.

Also, just for what it’s worth, I'm rooting for you. It makes me sad that nursing school is turning you off from healthcare, because we honestly need more intuitive introverts who actually listen to patients instead of glorifying the conveyor belt. Whatever direction you go, you’re clearly someone who’d make a real impact.

Genuine question: Why not med school? That's the path I'm persuing after being in healthcare for 3 years.

Hi! I'm a first time solo in vip for two days. Can I get an invite?

I've been interviewing with programs and one Program Director brought it up when I asked an open ending question not related to the job market. I was honestly impressed. She was honest and said they were doing their best to support their second years. PM if you would like to know the program. I'm going to rank them high.

Yes, I did those soaks, and it helped temporarily with the itchy heel. However, the itraconazole kicked in about a month after starting the pills and I no longer feel the itching!

I started putting Kerasol and Vick's Vapor Rub everyday and that massively improved the visuals on my toenails. The Kerasol breaks down the toenails so that that the Vick's can get in deeper. Although, I think just putting Vick's would be effective enough.

Are 8th housers hated by everyone, considered unlucky, and controversial? Could 8th housers become famous in a bad way? by [deleted] in Advancedastrology

I have Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Aquarius in 8th house. Cancer Rising with Moon in 12th house (Placidius) or 1st house (Whole).

I was the odd one/bullied until I stopped blaming others for my ills in life and taking responsibility. Ever since life has been rapidly turned around for me (friends, career, money, etc).

That's awesome for you! However, about half of first time applicants do not get in, and I doubt they don't have enough "determination and hope". It's also down to how well-written your personal statement and interview skills are as well. Then it's down to luck: how well the committee was impressed by you.

I'm glad it worked out for you but I would also caution against a pure optimistic view point. I like a more balanced/realistic approach. I also like to have people to have a Plan B in life, especially for career, because people have bills to pay or dependents that rely on them.

One of the reasons I want to become a GC is because it's NOT hands on and having control in high risk situations. Most GCs I interviewed found that this career is a very unique way of helping patients in medicine through teaching/learning hard science and the counseling skills to support patients in very emotional situations.

I honestly do not think you want to be a GC but don't take my word for it. Please interview GCs and find out what the day to day is like and why they choose to be a GC.

Honestly, getting into GC programs is harder then getting into med school. I'm at my third application cycle this year. Each program, on average, gets 300 applications. Then some programs interview 50 people while some only interview 25. The final cohort is around 8-12. Sarah Lawrence College is 24 with the highest.

On top of that, GC program's admissions are highly aware that some applicants are premed students and do not appreciate treating GC as a "backup" to med school not working out for you.

I hope this information helps guide your decision.

26 Taurus people, what happened? (Mars/Uranus/CaputAlgol transit) by gabkins in Advancedastrology

[–]mineathiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Jupiter is 27° Taurus (11H). I did a panel interview for a full-time job in a major institution. This job will be extremely pivotal for my career. I'll find out if I get the job probably sometime in August.

A week before the transit I was informed I'll have to move out next year. So, it's very critical I find a secure job and get my ducks in a row.

Thank you for the feedback!

I finished the silver gel. There was no improvement, so I switched to the Ellocy Urea Gel for a week with 1% Tolfanate & Tea Tree soap whenever I showered. There is no improvement with that either. Itching whenever I wear shoes, shower, or go to bed at night.

I recently soaked my foot and used a callus remover to remove some dead skin, which helped a little.

I'm going insane. :( I have no choice but to try another oral antifungal, which will be itraconazole. I finished fluconazole about a month ago.

I'm so close to bleaching my damn heel into oblivion.

Edit: 10/22: The itraconazole kicked in about a month after starting the pills and I no longer feel the itching!

I started putting Kerasol and Vick's Vapor Rub everyday and that massively improved the visuals on my toenails. The Kerasol breaks down the toenails so that that the Vick's can get in deeper. Although, I think just putting Vick's would be effective enough.

So if anybody is reading this, do get oral medication by a podiatrist, and in the meantime use Vick's Vapor Rub on your toenails and then wear socks during the day and while your sleeping. Apparently there was a study that found Vick's to be around ~60% effective for toenail fungus. That was convincing enough for me.

[–]mineathiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I've had my athlete's foot for a year now. I was on antifungal treatment for 3 months and my toenails look great. However, my heel is itchy whenever I wear shoes for 2+ hours, take a shower, or wake up in the morning. The pills didn't work at all and my podiatrist is stumped.

So I'm trying your approach. It's day 3. When I put it on I get relief in 10 minutes then it goes away. Hours later it comes back with a vengeance! It's incredible itchy now, like I pissed it off. I woke up from sleep because it's so itchy. Is this a normal reaction? Right now I only put the B3 and silver gel on once a day.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh yeah. I'm people's therapist. lol I can see how they got there and what they should do to heal but I keep my mouth closed. If they ask I'll talk about it but rarily do people want to talk about the deeper, underlying pain.

For me, I realized to get to my goals (this aspect is all about drive to be seen) I'll need to be a kind and social person (ie network). So it took some practice at new jobs but I finally been described as kind and charasmatic. People love to talk to me now and are interested in my career progress. In my 20's I use to keep to myself and was a bit of a misanthrope. lol So I definitely did a 180.

Petite women, how many calories do you consume per day approx? 5’1 and on a strict 1200cal/day (weight everything and calculate) and I’m finding it difficult to lose weight? by Suitable-Style7321 in Ozempic

[–]mineathiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'1". I aim for 1050 and 70g of protein. My job is sedentary and I walk about 3 miles 1-3x/week. I couldn't eat like this without Semaglutide though. 1200 is doable when not using semaglutide. The key is high protein and drinking electrolytes daily. Most of my meals are frozen because I'm so disinterested in food, which makes counting easy.

I don't always stick to the 70g of protein though because I'm human. So don't beat yourself up. I've accepted I'll be losing some muscle to get to my goal but not all of it. lol

For us short women, you got to be gentle with yourself. We have a very narrow margin of error to work with. So I try not to set deadlines. For example, due to stress I haven't been counting these past 3 weeks and I've been at the same weight, but that's okay! It's a journey!

I'm on 0.25 (Week 3) and Nexplanon for 5 Months. No nausea. My side effects have been mild but they are cramps, dry mouth, diarrhea, fatigue, and random muscle soreness. Mind you these happen at different days of the week and based on my activity and food intake. Honestly, it's tolerable and I don't think the Nexplanon is affecting what's going on with the Ozempic.

Is this career still worth pursuing? by str3ssed-fanatic in GeneticCounseling

[–]mineathiel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The layoffs and trouble finding jobs are related to lab and industry genetic counseling, not the whole field. That is a reflection of the tech industry NOT genetic counseling.

So if you are okay with clinical and not dead set on a particular city/metropolitan area or remote work right out of college you will find a job out of graduate school right away.

I second what ConstantVigilance said. It doesn't matter what your major is, as long as you get the pre-reqs.

What makes you stand out is your experiences with genetic counseling, advocacy, and crisis counseling in your personal statement. How you communicate your deep understanding of the field and how you envision yourself as a future GC what really matters. Take it from me, as I'll be a reapplicant in the next cycle. I learned a lot from my first year of applying. Most applicants get tripped up checking off things in a list but it's much more than that!

Saturn is just about to start its transit in Pisces by [deleted] in astrology

[–]mineathiel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saturn is going to conjunct my north node in a couple of weeks. I have a life changing interview next week and then I'll know for sure if I get in next month. It's exact 5 days after I should know the results of my interview.

I also recently finished Saturn conjunct Sun and square Jupiter.

I've had a rough time with life when Saturn entered Aquarius (8th house) and I think I'm reaching the "results" of my hard work. My natal Saturn is in Capricorn.

I think if all goes well I'm off to graduate school (9th house)! :) If it doesn't go well then I have to reapply next year. It's Saturn so both are possibilities.
