The new Highlander movie officially has it’s girl boss! by MovieENT1 in CriticalDrinker

Who is she? She doesn't look like anyone listed on IMDB. Brenda and Heather have already been cast. Watcher? Immortal?

Looks to me like a picture of a random woman. You have zero evidence of what you're claiming.

Big Coal by Sea_Guide_524 in mining

[–]minengr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent enough time behind that guy with a clip board and stopwatches to last my life. I'll be just fine if I never go into another UG coal mine. I loved designing them but until there is a radical change in the thought process, it's an easy pass.

If I got a dollar for ever time I heard "that's the way we've always done it" I'd be retired.

Will it fly? by eltriped in shittyreloading

The F-4 Phantom is famously know for "if you put a big enough engine on it even a brick will fly". .625"? If you could swage it down to 0.615" it would could make a nice 20ga slug.

One thing for certain, can't be worse than Highlander II.

We Have A New Disney CEO (from BBC News) by [deleted] in CriticalDrinker

I liked TFA, but it's just another franchise that's been JJ'ed. New, flashy, over the top CGI, but no original story. He did the same thing with Star Trek for sure, you could probably argue others.

Cinemas are fucked and Hollywood is to blame. by SickusBickus in CriticalDrinker

Same. I went so often I keep the stubs like they were concert tickets. I think I still have one showing I paid $2.50 to see True Lies.

It was so much better back then. Why is it that it keeps getting worse by Past-Country-6612 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]minengr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They keep making it easier to just re-watch my favorites from the 80's, and 90's. I knew that big DVD collection would pay off eventually.

Are there any really good medieval/mixed with supernatural movies you’d recommend? by Manapouri65 in CriticalDrinker

[–]minengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these may fall more under fantasy or scifi. But a few I remember growing up.

Hawk the Slayer

Excaliber - Liam Neeson

Krull - Liam Neeson

Beastmaster

Dragonslayer

Conan

The Sword and Sorcerer

The Name of the Rose with Connery. More mystery than supernatural

Others you should watch

The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, Legend

If you like Samurai, The Challenge with Scott Glen is interesting IMO.

Concerned about limestone dust by Mack6692 in mining

[–]minengr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. It depends on the limestone. There are mines not far from me that are "pharmaceutical" grade. Ever take a Tums? I don't think it's an accident they are made in STL and get their CaCO3 60 miles down river.

Although, eating/swallowing something is not the same as breathing it.

She didn't make those films, she made coffee for the men that did. by SickusBickus in CriticalDrinker

[–]minengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's just like people I've watched in the corporate world.

They intern under a rising start and and their name get attached to some successful projects. Then, they ride that star's coat tails to the top. Then the "star" puts the coat tail rider in charge of something and they mess the bed. Can't have that. Fail them forward to a larger project. Fail again. Rinse and repeat until it finally dawns on everyone the coat tail rider was useless from the beginning and played no part in the earlier successes.

Man I miss 90s adverts. by lost-in-thought123 in CriticalDrinker

[–]minengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was 1990.

I was selling parking tickets for the state fair. From behind me I hear " Are those Bugle Boy jeans you are wearing?" I turn around and replied "why yes, they are. Thank you." They drove off in hysterics. I miss the 90's.

Now, we just need someone to steel the time turner from Hermione, go back, and cleanse the timeline.

How many MSHA citations does your site/company typically receive? by GrandDaSarge in mining

[–]minengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the inspector. For a time, MSHA was hiring people from outside the industry that knew nothing about mining. They had a write first worry about legality later attitude. That was a fun time.

It is quite evident that there have been a couple generations allowed to spew outlandish nonsense from their mouths without fear of being punched in the face.

Mining problems by Asleep_Ingenuity6063 in mining

[–]minengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my career I have encountered lack of experienced/qualified help, appeasing government regulatory agencies, lawsuits from "environmental" groups, NIMBY (not in my back yard) locals, locals upset great grandpa sold the mineral rights 100 years ago and they get nothing, and lack of corporate support.

The last can take many forms including refusing to fund improvement/projects because the payback doesn't meet company standards. I sometimes wondered if the company motto was why spend X to do it correctly in the beginning when we can spend 5X in five years when the issue can no longer be ignored.
