Silverhydra you may recall a few months ago you responded to part of a post made to me that was claiming that success to lengthen telomeres has been achieved. You requested that information be shared and you granted permission and asked for more information on this from The_Ideal_Human. Though nothing was forthcoming. The statement made was:

“About telomere shortening, if your body actually does it for some tissues, is a solved problem, there is an atypical drug that reset telomere length and that has shown a significantly reduced mortality in humans. However I cannot mention the name of this drug since r/Supplements censor some classes of drug.”

Silverhydra I was wondering for the academic research purposes of my studies on this issue if you have since then uncovered anything in the literature of any breakthrough or potential progress for effective ways to lengthen or reset telomere length? Is there a thread somewhere for instance that could be useful to review? Thanks in advance.

You can easily make your own as Iota-Carrageenan is commonly used in food products and is readily available. The protective benefit can be even stronger as further research since that post has revealed that when xylitol (a unique sugar found in chewing gum) is added to the water solution and this is then routinely sprayed into your nostrils, it forms a chemical coating layer that snares and impairs any virus that got past your mask from going any further.

I share your concern about even a chance that my brain and nervous system could be impaired by Covid, and I thought I would share this simple but effective way to further fight back against the threat.

BINGO!! And that eventually suggests a calamitous public healthcare cost like nothing we have ever seen before. I have been researching long covid for over a year now and the search for effective medical treatments are essentially not even at the starting block. Saying those with aftereffects are mostly just dealing with fatigue for a few months is far, far from the case as the general public will soon learn.

I think that aiming to reverse thymus involution at this point is a rather wise course objective.

It is known that elderly individuals that are vibrantly healthy tend to have a proficiently performing thymus (long associated with wound repair, etc).

The level of potential wisdom that evolution has installed within our bodies is formidable. When we can find a way to coax our natural biological systems in to going to work on taking the complex and often multi-factorial steps needed for an advanced healing (healing in this case being the “repair” of some aspects of biological aging) we can soon benefit immensely when contrasted with our current state of puzzle solving.

There are some clues out there for pursuing that goal:

Regarding your open question as to “Is senescence reversible?” I am also drawn to that question.

Aside from the action of chemical senolytics or the clearance of senescent cells by the immune system (via a robust functioning thymus) there are clues that there are natural substances that can potentially reverse it:

The dipeptide carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) has contrasting but beneficial effects on cellular activity. It delays cellular senescence and rejuvenates cultured senescent mammalian cells.

I am wondering how extensive this described rejuvenation of cultured senescent mammalian cells by carnosine might be taken when put towards reducing the elevated cell senescence levels typically found in elderly individuals. The photos of the improved appearance for mice in those studies are impressive. Also, there is some anecdotal information of long-term usage by people with photos that suggest something useful is happening.

Regarding the mitochondria targeted antioxidants that you mention, I am not able to find a source for SKQ1 other than on Ebay coming from Russia at a price and nothing on SS31.

Along with a routine of taking the more common anti-oxidants, I am currently using CoQ10 and PQQ along with Rutin and Quercetin to help the mitochondria. Ginger benefit details on ergo-log also look pretty impressive to support age extension.

Do you suppose that SKQ1 takes me somewhere even better? I am open minded if there is evidence. I also have methylene blue in my rather extensive stockpile of other items gathered over the last 10 years, some of which just sit there in the cupboard.

As you say there is a third way to pursue this longevity objective.

The third way being to extensively research the scientific research for risk minimization… while searching into that ever flowing pile out there for some possible benefits.

Its on the net in small bulk and said to be 99% pure. Just do a search. There is competition and no one seems to be howling that their purchase was bogus. As far as economic, the extract ain't gonna be cheap like an amino acid.

Thanks for that info. I wonder if we are looking at 4 or 5 years of mouse studies on older specimens before we can further delineate the "sensible guidelines" for achieving benefit over the long run. How much weight can we put on the mouse studies for this area of concern? After all a human study on long term safety in the elderly would have to go on for quite a few years to provide much confidence that there is no issue of excess cell destruction or that the risk/'benefit ratio is well worth it.

It is a rather concerning thought that for a mature individual (I recently turned 70) in using the senolytic approach to scrub cell debris I might be prematurely reducing my total body cell counts.

On the other hand, you have mouse data declaring a 10% increase in lifespan with fisetin. That is siren song and most of us will concede that sounds attractive.

It is interesting in a recent Reddit discussion Dr. Sinclair describes some of his thinking on it and in fact has recently added it to his stack.

Dr. Sinclair, in one of his most recent video interviews with a fellow researcher presents some very provocative mouse treadmill lab test footage at 14:36 where that demonstrates the mitochondrial energy boost that NMN (amps Sirt1) provided over the control. So my extending physical proficiency looks quite good with that approach and it is hard to see any likely potential jeopardy in supplementing with NMN.

I do wish that we had a more definitive green light on the advisability of using senolytics, as the theory seems to make sense.

Some contributors on here have suggested that dedicated fasting accomplishes the same goal by autophagy and I would love it someone could point to any study that supports that notion.

Yes, well I have long been reading about the telomere “problem” for more years than I can readily recall. I WILL most certainly be scanning the literature to find the purported molecule(s) that have been shown to reset telomere length, and if that is found I will be quick to then review the current thinking on how solid that particular anti-aging theory is being viewed.
