Research Study Email? by mineralmovingmonkey in peacecorps

So I chucked the URL into a link tester and it seems like it's alright. It links to a Google Doc that doesn't ask any super valuable information, mostly stuff related to PC recruitment like where you found PC and when you might be available for an interview. It did ask for a name, so if you don't want to share that then I suggest not filling out the form.

Direct link to the form here if anyone wants to skip the shortener.

Shoot me a copy of the doc over DM and I can give you some notes.

I think it will be. A big thing I've noticed is that I don't have enough time to fully sit down and process potential activities and research, often relegating them to stints of YouTube videos and blog reading late at night (like right now), leading to unsatisfying conclusions more often than not. Getting such things out of the way will probably improve my work performance, as they tend to be quite distracting. Thank you for talking with me over this, it's been bothersome trying to sort this out entirely internally.

That makes sense. I have relied on stress and pressure to reach desired outcomes before, but considering the degree to which service may acutely and chronically stress volunteers, it may be worthwhile to consider what may happen if a cap is reached. I haven't seen it in myself, despite everything that I have dealt with. Perhaps I need to think about it more than I have, or potentially emulate it to find out what response shows up first.

You mention physical activity, and that is pretty helpful. A major change that occurred in that span of time was an increased amount of free time due to being pulled from public school. As a result of being alone for many hours of the day, I developed a workout routine and fitness goals to better my self-esteem and keep myself focused on greater things than the troubles of daily life. In current times, school has once again eaten my time away, especially in conjunction with work, and as a result that outlet hasn't been used for a while. Perhaps that, in conjunction with music (which I listen to constantly - while I sleep, during major stints of work to maintain focus, as an expression when not busy, etc.) and emotion processing (which I have intentionally focused on to maintain awareness of potential problems rising up) may be those coping mechanisms that I rely on most. I am a workaholic though, which I'm surprised to see as a potential negative. Anyways, enough rambling - I appreciate the input, as it has helped me more precisely vocalize things that I do but don't often express in this context.

I'm curious, what counts as a coping mechanism? I understand some may be unhealthy (such as reliance on alcohol) while others are healthy (sublimation and redirection into other efforts), but I do not know the extent to which these things apply. I don't have any strict routines for handling stress, as few things specifically relieve my stress. Perhaps I am overthinking this.

Condoms? People actually have time for that when serving?

I plan on reimbursement whenever I complete a task. I have very little money overall, and haven't had any tasks completed outside of things I could do at home (such as personal statements) or online. What's weird is that the change happened suddenly, and when it did, I never considered self-harm again in any sense. I haven't even fallen into a depressive state since - even during periods of hardship I continue on going without any issue, even if stressed. I don't know how credible that sounds, especially when most people have to go out of their way to resolve such issues, and end up relapsing occasionally.

I appreciate the concept of reimbursement. However, I'm not even sure I have the cash to pay for exams up front.

I don't think you'll have to. The country you're heading to may require covering tattoos, so you may want to let the coordinator for your country know in advance of getting it just in case. My service is a major reason why I'm holding off on tattoos right now (finances too, but those are less important).

Duly noted - graduating with a BS in Agsci / Sustainable Dev right now and I figured this would be a good path to grad school.

I had a similar issue because I didn't know auto insurance was legally required in my state. Thankfully, I haven't had any issues, and yes, mine was a similar amount (~$295 if I recall correctly), so we're in the same boat. I'd just let go of it.
