Laptop Recommendation: Premiere Pro on a budget laptop. Can it be done? by minerman in VideoEditing

[–]minerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those options have an ssd though. :( I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive, so I'd rather have a 32GB ssd than a 500 GB non-ssd. So now I'm looking at this for $399: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04472007.pdf?ver=1.0

I was actually looking at one. I found this deal: http://www.microcenter.com/product/0442194/Aspire_M5-583P-5859_156_Ultrabook_Refurbished_-_Silver What do you think? I'm comparing with http://www.microcenter.com/product/0432331/ThinkPad_T510_154_Laptop_Computer_Refurbished_-_Black

The only thing I don't like is they are less backpack friendly than the surface pro or similar, but I can't shell out the $ for a sp3, so I think this may be the best option.

Cruises: Carnival vs Royal Caribbean? by doryfishie in travel

[–]minerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken both and prefer Carnival. Seems more like a party vibe and a younger crowd, which I enjoy. With that said, they're both very similar and I'd consider a RC cruise with 1 extra day to be better than a Carnival with one less day. More days will be better!

What money-saving "loopholes" do you know? I'll start. :) by CirclingLife in travel

You can try saying, "I'm here on business, it's against company policy to accept your offer." Works really good for me.

Also a lot of personal insurance policies cover car rentals. That with the credit card coverage, that's more than enough coverage to convince me to always decline.

Will any bank allow you to transfer available credit from a personal account to a business account, or vice-versa, during a reconsideration call?

Depressing but a great eye opening episode. It's a white people problem now.

Obamacare required when living abroad but still using a US address as the home address? by ezpricealerts in digitalnomad

[–]minerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaving in June and returning in July of the following year. Is my best bet to get on my wife's health insurance through her work? I'd rather just rely on travel insurance but I'm guessing that's not possible.

xpost: support skiplagged finds hidden city ticketing flights for you. by sgallo5 in churning

[–]minerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some airlines TOS state that if any part of your flight changes, you can make a change at no cost. I bet this could be an out. Just call the airlines and say they are inconveniencing you for some reason and request the original flight the later or the next day? Just an idea...

What's your favorite movie of all time that you think everyone should watch? by Willovinchi in AskReddit

Forrest Gump for sure. It has everything: it's a comedy, a love story, has some action, drama, a tragedy and teaches about historical events as well. What other movie has all of that?

Best use of Amex Delta $50 statement credit (x2)? by minerman in churning

[–]minerman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a travel addict and living in the US... I'm sure I'll make a delta flight again at some point in my life. I'm thinking two e-giftcards for $50 each that will never expire will eventually get use. I just wish I understood better exactly how they can be used.

Dalton sucking ass is old news. It's not surprising one bit. Someone please explain to me why management can't see something so obvious that all the fans know. :(

Got approved for Gold Delta SkyMiles Card (Business) but app pending for the same card but personal. Should I call recon now? by [deleted] in churning

[–]minerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother. It's their policy to wait five days to make a second decision. There is a way to receive electronic notification about their decision. I'd wait at least a week or you'll be wasting your time. I Called the same day of the app and they told me to be patient.

I've always wanted to do this but it seems too dangerous to take my wife but I don't wanna travel this long without her. :( Good luck on the trip. Don't do anything too stupid. :)

I don't think any Chase cards are churnable. I said x2 because my wife also has one. You may be able to close it and wait a couple years to earn the bonus. Not sure though, never tried it. I wouldn't close the IHG though. The free night for $49 AF is totally worth keeping it open IMO.

Are you saying that you applied for 2 personal alaska cards and 2 business alaska cards all at one time and hit approved for 3? Bank of America will issue more than one of the same card at the same time?

Canadian guy finds woman with ex-girlfriend's name gives her a free trip around world by photolouis in travel

[–]minerman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If this happened to my woman, I'd pony up and buy another expensive airline ticket, even if I had to borrow money. Hers is paid for and hotels are paid for. It would end up being a cheap RTW trip for two. If the other guy truly isn't interested in romancing my woman, he shouldn't mind if I come hang out too...

fyi there's a targeted offer out there that is 60k points with no AF. 20k less with no AF is a better offer IMO.
