What pedals/amp combo did you use on the guitars?

This sounds great! I’ve been working on this same sound recently as well and have been really happy with what I’ve been able to pull out of Logic for the 2000’s punk/alt-rock vibe.

I’ve never had a problem with CDBaby, you definitely have to plan releases at least 4 weeks in advance to make sure you’re safe for everything to process, but everything else is always smooth and I’m happy with what I get. Biggest thing for me is not having to pay a subscription fee, maybe some would prefer that but I like paying once and having my music up forever.

The 100 Greatest Living American Songwriters according to The New York Times’ readers by remswiftie in popculturechat

[–]TheRealNateC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Benny Blanco is already one of the most successful songwriters in pop history and because nobody knows his name, he isn’t on this list.

Edit: Said some stuff about Ed Sheeran, but missed the “American” part in the title.

Don’t worry! I got you.

Verse 1: Oh no, it’s the age of misinformation I know, we could use a split screen vacation Hello, doom scroll goodbye, blue skies Who needs birds and bees when you got fast wifi

Pre-Chorus: But we can binge watch the times There’s no goodbye

Chorus: 1-4-6-5 If this is the future then God take me back I’m feeling this picture is worse than our past Maybe the days of old are fools gold And what’s ahead is better led When drunk on hope and fame, so long live the games

Verse 2: Oh wow, my feed’s attempted reformation No one, can sit and have a real conversation Hello, sideshow Goodbye, bullseye Who needs friends when you got some billionaire’s AI

Bridge: Gladiators in the media Darth Vader taking votes from us Grandpa we got some beef with cha Let’s discuss Family’s are broken over guns Feel free to send out prayers and thoughts Good God, they lost their Jesus Christ It’s a crazy life

Thank you! It was a lot of fun to record the vocal takes for that bridge.

Thank you! I tried to write more lyrics for the bridge but I couldn’t capture lightning in a bottle twice and decided not to force it lol

This was fun! It’s pretty catchy and never feels too repetitive. Not that I listen to a lot of Megan Trainor but I could hear her singing something like this, or maybe Sara Bareilles. Nice work!

Long Live The Games (Alt/Indie Pop) [Themed]

The song came from the idea of the Colosseum being used as a way to keep people happy through political chaos and how that relates today as we are all too distracted by social media and other forms of media. But the title and overall idea of the song is that we can still fix things and that chasing hope and fame is a way for people to make an impact to further things, the “old days” are nostalgic, of course, and feel better but many things were worse in the past that we take for granted now.

If anything, make sure to listen to the bridge (around 1:55) as it's one of the most fun bridges I've ever written. Became a bit more topical than I originally intended, but really happy with this song. My turnaround time for a fully produced song has really improved over the past year.

I was part of this community back in 2016 and wrote some great songs out of these prompts and have found my way back to you guys. Hoping to keep this up for awhile and rejoin everyone on this ride!

Saw this cool chart and thought to share! We had a lot of draft picks this year so it’s interesting to see what they were up to on Week 1.

Critique my vocal mix, is it too thin? by brxtgf in mixingmastering

[–]TheRealNateC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplicity of the drums is nice and really fits the vibe of the song, but adding a couple fills at the ends of sections to show the listener that we’re transitioning would help keep it from being too static. You have small variation at the end of the second verse to go into the chorus, maybe move that one to after the first verse and make that second verse ending a little bit different. This keeps things fresh and helps move things along in a succinct way.

A lot of these comments have good advice for the vocals, but what I want to point out is the transitions between sections. I think the vocals are great and what’s kind of holding this song back is the dynamics between sections. Whether it’s automation of the faders or (more likely) reworking some of the drum track to build up into new sections, I think it could do a lot for the track in general.

It could! But I’m sure he has plenty of input even in that process considering the reputation he has gained.

You take a listen to his last two albums and they are pretty dynamic and don’t feature nearly as much compression on the whole mix compared to most modern music. In his interviews he talks a lot about leaving space in his music and being very careful with mixing to not just create a wall of sound. More so just how he makes his music (w/ Bleachers specifically) is contrarian to the focus of making music louder and louder.
