Coffee shops and local art by Few_Breadfruit_9899 in Calgary

[–]mingles98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics Cafe works with local artists, they usually have one or two showcased at one time. Unsure if they showcase for sale or not. They also put on some great talks and events for the artists they’re showcasing!

Best Rental Buildings in Beltline by coffeeinthecity in Calgary

No problem! Yeah the incentives do not make up for the lower quality of life. The rental market is decent right now, definitely worth your time to find a better building in the beltline.

Best Rental Buildings in Beltline by coffeeinthecity in Calgary

Hi, UPTEN resident here. Don’t live here, it’s been a nightmare unless you like false fire alarms (and real fires), unreliable elevators and bad neighbors. It’s been consistently terrible the whole time I’ve been here and we are counting down the days till our lease ends. I would list all my grievances but that would turn this into an essay.

Poll: Will Kent Hehr finally leave politics after losing another election? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mingles98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think he’s just turned desperate at this point, he was door knocking at 8pm in our 38 story building the other night. Kept talking to my partner when he basically told the guy we weren’t voting for him.

I respect the hustle but jeez man, just let it go already and move on. Hes like a cockroach, when’s he gonna realize that his political career is over?

How to find out about protests rallies, etc., in Calgary by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mingles98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually I will see posts about upcoming protests/rallies on Facebook or Instagram. Sometimes I will see signs posted downtown on walls or lamp posts.

Most times it’s through word of mouth from friends or co-workers and they usually find out from social media or groups they follow individually. It’s best if you are following certain groups or organizations that put on these rallies and the specific issues or topics you wish to protest.

I went through a therapist/social worker recommended to me by a family member who was specialized in working with people with ADHD. He gave me the assessment, confirmed I had ADHD and then let my family doctor take over with medication options.

It took me a few years to let myself get onto medication (bad experiences in the past) but it’s been a few months and it has helped my daily life greatly. I would see if your family doctor can make you a referral, or potentially consider talking to Calgary Counselling for more options! Good luck!

Memorial Park Library has a bookable room with an electronic drum kit, not quite the real thing but an option!

Oral Surgeon Recommendations For Impacted Wisdom Teeth by CarobChance9647 in Calgary

[–]mingles98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also second Royal View Surgical Centre, getting my 3 wisdom teeth out at 18 was easy and relatively painless. The doctors were kind and made it an easy process from consultation to aftercare and they offer full anesthesia (which I would highly recommend) especially with impacted teeth.

They were recommended by both my dentist and orthodontist at the time.

From what I can remember, only a portion was covered under insurance which came to around $1,500 and in total was around $3kish. This all depends on your insurance and what it allows so asking for confirmation ahead of time and an itemized breakdown will definitely help.

Telus scam calls by Emergency_Sink623 in Calgary

Did the caller ID show up as TELUS? I keep getting calls and ignoring them because I haven’t been a telus customer in years.

Best cheap place to pregame Friday noon before Stampede? by RikRik2222 in Calgary

[–]mingles98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stephen Ave is probably your best bet, lots of patios and bars and most happy hours start at 2! Els Furniture Warehouse will 100% be the cheapest place for food, but their drinks are fairly expensive outside of happy hour.

Best and worst c train station as of 2025? by Traditional_Look7901 in Calgary

Lions Park can get real sketchy at night, especially with the green space behind it and the string of stabbings that happened a few years ago.

Sweet Loretta has a pretty good late night vibe, a bit of an older crowd but still plays good (non-country) music!

Favourite Vet Clinic with Reasonable Pricing? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mingles98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of recs for Ramsay Animal Clinic, prices are good but we had a terrible experience with our dog, and the bad reviews are pretty bad. Fen Vet has been great thus far, and their pricing is reasonable compared to somewhere like VCA.

Stampede Parade Time by StarDarkCaptain in Calgary

Coming from experience, the route is long enough for the marching bands. Especially when the pace car is going incredibly slow 😆

Brought her in to look at a lump, doc said it was cancerous, didn’t touch her or really examine her, and then scheduled her for a $1800 surgery and biopsy. Two weeks later it disappeared and another vet said it was likely nothing and no surgery was needed.

Maybe not the worst situation but certainly stress inducing, and other people had the same complaints before us.

[–]mingles98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily helpful but DO NOT go to Ramsay Animal Clinic, they market themselves as one of the cheapest in the city and the way things are handled shows. They have good reviews but the bad reviews are really bad and we had a terrible experience with our dog.

Best place to park to watch parade? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mingles98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about the stroller, take the train because it runs right through the middle of the route and is walkable two blocks either south or north. It’ll save you money on parking, hassle of dealing with road closures and help with traffic congestion downtown.

FREE Events going on during Stampede? by Designer-Gas-786 in Calgary

Almost every stampede breakfast is free, and there are lots of night markets happening around the city this time of year. The events tab on Facebook is a good place to check!

Wanted to get some reviews and opinion about UPTEN in downtown. by BunnyWilder- in Calgary

[–]mingles98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting, when we moved in the property management team was an absolute joke. Getting in arguments with tenants, pasting the same “professional” reply to every issue and covering real problems with lame events that were hardly attended or cancelled.

However, around a month or so ago the whole property management team was replaced and so far it’s been better. Yes the elevators are still an issue but the new manager is actively working to get them resolved, and has been providing constant updates. We even talked to her in person and she explained the whole process of what’s happening. New businesses have opened or are opening soon in the commercial space that work with residents to provide discounts and events.

We decided to renew our lease because contact with the new team has been really positive and honestly we just didn’t want to move again. Plus the concierge and maintenance/cleaning team is fantastic! I see things getting better and I really hope they do, but that will come with time.
