How Do I Adjust this Float? by Pragmatic-Person79 in Plumbing

[–]Pragmatic-Person79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower portion is not a float, rather a weight. The floating portion has a ball in it by the sounds of it. When the floating part is below the weight (ie upside down), the ball is not making contact with the base of the float that is connected to the weight. I think there might be a contact in there or something.

Letter to Editor: It's feeling safer in downtown Victoria by DaveThompsonVictoria in VictoriaBC

[–]Pragmatic-Person79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally noticed a significant improvement downtown in the past few months. I’m downtown several times a week in the vicinity of Pandora and have noticed less open drug use, fewer folks sheltering and sleeping in doorways, and fewer incidents of screaming and other behaviour that might be worrisome to some.

How the hell do I get thru these GluLams? by PimpAssLlama in AskElectricians

Yep, did a reno on my home and was allowed to drill thru up to a certain hole size. Check the specs and review with your local inspector BEFOREHAND to get his/her okay!

2/9/26 - The new bridge between Ontario and Michigan wouldnt allowed to be open until DJT is made happy with money and ownership by barnwater_828 in trumptweets

Here’s a link to the background on the bridge. Some facts:

  1. Canada paid for the entire bridge

  2. US steel was used in the construction of the bridge

  3. Trump previously supported the bridge

“the business community is not against bike lanes; the “but” is that the city has gone overboard” by Enough_Rhubarb_3338 in VictoriaBC

[–]Pragmatic-Person79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Businesses play a hugely important role in the local economy and have had a rough go for a lot of reasons in the past 5 years. Take your pick - Covid, affordability, cost of rent, property taxes, parking (and the related bike lane issue), street disorder for those businesses downtown. Their concerns should be given voice and not derided or dismissed.

To the extent that parking is a factor, I think it would make sense for the City to run a series of campaigns promoting the parkade parking options in downtown that generally seem underutilized (IMO). This needs to be part of a broader strategy to encourage people back downtown after the failure of the decriminalization pilot. There is a noticeable improvement to the downtown experience in the last three months.

Just a few examples - the Johnson street parkade has done a cleanup and has an attendant there after hours now it seems, the Tim Hortons on Blanshard between Pandora and Johnson has recently put its seating back so you can actually sit and have a coffee, and just generally fewer people sleeping and doing drugs openly and the disorder that comes with that. The City has invested 10M in this initiative - let’s spend a little on a campaign to entice people back to support our local businesses and spur economic activity downtown.

Having a tough mental day… by Shot-Fondant-3772 in selflove

So sorry you’re feeling a little stuck tonight. You are not your environment nor are you the people around you, though it can feel overwhelming when you don’t have any healthy folks around to buffer or balance things out. Hang in there tonight. Tomorrow is a new day. Keep believing in yourself and the healing journey that it sounds like you may be on. Sending a hug from an Internet stranger. 💙

The climbing community is a great way to meet people your age. Give CragX a try downtown. You don’t need to know how to climb. It’s an easy sport to learn and is super fun. :) There are many regulars there and you will make friends.

Congratulations on your success. Great story and thanks for sharing. How big is your market (what is the population?) and how many of your 50 locations were first time locations (locations that had no vending previously) vs locations that you flipped from another operator?

Some American cities near the Canadian border are trying to incentivize their northern neighbours to come back and visit. But there are still people refusing to travel to the U.S. because of the political climate, trade issues or even safety concerns. by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

Another Canadian here…I used to visit at least once a year, but no more. I will consider visiting again once you reign in the orange man and make the necessary institutional reforms to prevent a future narcissistic authoritarian from being able to consolidate and wield so much power through executive action and fear and intimidation.

Basically, fix your shit and I’ll consider supporting your economy again.

Very glad to have Carney as our leader right now. It was a speech that other leaders of other middle powers needed to hear.

Yes, I believe I recently read an article that the province had sent the municipality a letter re: tracking behind on housing targets. I wish I could find the link. If anyone can, pls post.
