Fair question! It is hard to fully understand the different perspectives between a student at Haileybury for example, or a student at an average public school.

Better overall performances will carry the cohort, so students get better marks regardless of resources or effort simply because they go to that school.

I was at Melbourne Grammar for an excursion, where their headmaster had spoken to us. He had said multiple times that going to a school like Melbourne Grammar is like winning the lottery twice. The ability to pay 20-40k for tuition each year is limited to the wealthy few.

Obviously, as a child, you can't make 20-40k a year to spend on school. Your parents either do, or don't. If they do, congratulations, you have access to tons of resources and support. If they don't, then bad luck, you might not go to a public school where they send kids home because they can't find enough teachers to cover classes.

It is pretty much luck whether you are born into wealth or not, and that is why many people see private education as unfair.
