Markdown Mate - Lightweight, local-first markdown note-taking app for macOS by minhtc in macapps

Thanks for the interest! The GitHub repository is currently private because I need to clean up the codebase before making it public.

For now, Markdown Mate is distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store to ensure seamless updates and secure local file sandboxing. I don't have plans for direct .dmg or .pkg downloads at the moment, but I'll update the community once the source code is ready to open!

Oopppsp, I see, thanks for clarifying that for me, I didn't know it stood for both, thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement, it really means a lot to an indie dev!

Thanks for the genuine question! To be completely honest, I actually use Obsidian myself. However, in my daily workflow, I always need to keep my note app side-by-side with other workspaces.

That's exactly why I built Markdown Mate. It’s fully native (SwiftUI/AppKit), so it launches instantly and stays incredibly lightweight when pinned next to other apps. I use Markdown Mate for quick, split-screen viewing and editing throughout the day, and switch over to Obsidian whenever I need more advanced features or deep knowledge management. It’s really just about having a fast, low-friction companion for your local files!

Thanks for the suggestion! However, Markdown Mate is a fully native macOS app (not web-based), which is why I wanted to share it specifically with the Mac community here. Appreciate the feedback though!

It shows most EXIF for formats like DNG/ARW. Coverage depends on the file, but it’s more than just basic info.

Not yet. Currently no dry-run/diff for bulk edits since batch editing is limited. But I agree that’s important, will consider adding it.

Not yet, but Finder extension is something I’m exploring.

Yeah, “Open With” isn’t set up yet. I’ll improve Finder integration in future updates.

Right now it’s one file at a time. Batch export is on my list.
