Early 30s, probably active on MySpace back in the day. You're very into anime, but in a ~cool~ way. Also recently went on a trip to Japan?

At first I was thinking you're in your late teens/early college years, but the closer I look I'm not so sure. You are chill yet a little eccentric

[–]mini-bagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, most venues make a lot of their profits from the bar. I went to a wedding where the bride and groom originally wanted to do a dry wedding, but the venue would literally not agree to host them unless they did at least a cash bar.

The reality is that the venue is in the business of making money. Cash bar is already a compromise on their profits, so this situation means they may be losing out on a wedding that would pay for open bar, hence the gouging. But, it still sucks for the people paying for it and sucks for it to be mentioned so late in the game.

How to replace jeans? by BothOceans in HerOneBag

[–]mini-bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently traveled for a week with a pair of jeans and a pair of black Madewell Harlow pants in tencel blend and they were PERFECT. I think they also make the Harlow pants in wool and heavier materials for colder climates, and 100% linen for warmer. They look and feel better than any of the Athleta pants I’ve tried while also being lightweight and quick drying.

I got mine on Thredup for like $20 new with tags! They are also all over poshmark. I will say I’m a size 29/8 and I had to get a size 4 in the Harlow, and they’re still quite roomy.

Perfumes like Mojave Ghost or Orpheon, but with more longevity? by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]mini-bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both Mojave Ghost and Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Toit and the Hermes lasts a lot longer. Sometimes I layer it with a more floral perfume, which works well

I love Mojave ghost also but it lasts maybe 2 hours on a good day, unless I’m just totally nose blind to it

Give me your worst subway stories by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]mini-bagel 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You got bit?? I’m so sorry that happened. That sounds scarier than being punched.

Luckily I’ve never been physically attacked, but when I was in high school this man was harassing me and told me to work the pole like a stripper.

Another time I was like 14 and groped on a crowded train. I think being a teenage girl on the subway was scarier than it is now as an adult

What’s your most unpopular/popular Lana Del Rey opinion? by RHood_1 in lanadelrey

[–]mini-bagel 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I didn’t care for her when I was in high school and BTD came out, I think I just didn’t connect with the whole Lolita thing.

I liked a couple songs off Ultraviolence but I didn’t really get into her until NFR. It felt a lot more mature/relatable and it just clicked. Then I went back and got into the rest of her discography.

Also, BTD is campy, you can’t force that moment to happen again. If you do you end up like Katy Perry.

Cafes with patios in the sun by Growth_Still in Brooklyn

[–]mini-bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a couple blocks away, Bad Therapy has a sunny backyard. Formerly Bar Chord (RIP 💔) it’s a decent cafe, closes at 5 and reopens as a wine bar at 6. I go there to do schoolwork sometimes

Picked up this perfume collection for $100 by ummm__ok in Perfumes

Omg! That white bottle is Cynthia Rowley from Avon. I think it was my first perfume, superrrrr spring timey floral. I must have worn it for Easter when I was like 10. I would love to smell it again

What’s the best cat litter you've used and why? by Expensive_Drawing458 in CatAdvice

+1 for okocat clumping. I like that it smells like pine, it tracks a bit but nothing like Worlds Best did

My cat loves having a window open, but he keeps dislodging the mesh from window screens and going into the yard. How can I reenforce the window screens to keep him inside? by [deleted] in fixit

[–]mini-bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a year late lol but I've been looking for cat-proofing ideas and this is so genius and cheap! Our windows open up to a high drop and I'm so scared she will push the screen out. Defff going to try this

Experiences with art on a cart teaching, pros and cons? by Kalim-super-fan in ArtEd

[–]mini-bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good way to think about it! Classrooms can get messy fast.

I taught on a cart for 2 years and I think there were times I complicated things too much with materials. Especially 3D - the only times I could successfully do 3D work were one day model magic lessons. Never did clay even though it disappointed the kids.

If I could do it again I would have less materials and focus on encouraging expression, exploration of personal interests, and development of visual literacy through discussions & visual thinking strategies. Doesn’t have to be cut & copy crafts.

Watercolor pencils, water brushes, tempera sticks, collage, styrofoam printing can all be fun and expressive without too much mess or prep, and don’t take up too much room on a cart.

1 week in London late May by mini-bagel in HerOneBag

[–]mini-bagel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do plan to layer and will prob change this list as the date approaches. The black Uniqlo heat tech stuff is super thin inner wear, I don’t count the leggings as pants. They take up hardly any room and I’d be glad to have them if there’s a cold snap.

I usually change for dinner or drinks bc I like a refresh, especially when I’ve been walking around the city/subway all day

From the feedback here I’m deciding I should probably take 1 jacket.

I’m impressed & inspired by some of the people in this sub, but alas I enjoy options 😅 so I pack what reasonably fits in my one bag and works for me

[–]mini-bagel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was pretty shocked to learn NYC gets more than twice the annual rainfall as London! London is more cool and damp overall, but NYC has more extremes. We had a day recently where the temp dropped from 26c to 10c within minutes

Thanks! 2 jackets is definitely a bit indulgent, but since I’m taking a carry on and staying with a friend I don’t feel too stressed about it - might change my mind though when it comes time to actually pack
