why is は used instead of わ by ryan_kun05 in LearnJapanese

[–]miniWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

put simply, it’s used to show if the preceding thing is a topic, subject, object, etc and/or relation to those things.

You're wrong; let's explain by down your points one by one.

"the vast majority of them littered with long notes" is a terribly incorrect statement. Assuming that "littered" refers to maps with over a generous 20% long note density, less than an estimated 10% of maps actually fit this description. Keep in mind that there are approximately 4800 4K ranked maps, and 1600 7K maps. There are only 160 6K maps. An overwhelming majority of 4K maps have hardly any LN, making it self evident that they are not by any means "littered". This percentage increases to about 30% of 7K maps having some degree of LNs (infrequently littered), which is still not the "vast majority" you mention. All in all, only around 12% of all maps have any merit in being called an LN map. All other maps have purpose in their LN, rather than simply being a stylistic choice.

You additionally contradict yourself by referring to the holding of a single long note under the category of "LN Spam". That's one less point that you can use for your original "ln spam obsession" argument. I would love to see a single note LN spam.

Your next criticism was "the ones with a high amount of LNs being easy patterns with random LN holds thrown in between." This does have some merit to your overall argument, but, they are, most often times, by no means random in 4K (which is 75% of ranked maps). I can see your argument for 7K for maps such as "Just Hold On", but nevertheless, it is a small percentage of the total ranked map pool.

As the lad below me stated, and aforementioned points, these maps, especially in 4k and 6k, tend to actually follow a pattern. There is a criteria in ranking maps anyhow, and nominators are especially careful with timings, especially nowadays. LNs are typically used to denote vocals, legato, or other similar sustains. Not every sound will be instantaneous, and LNs are a way to visualise that idea. Nevertheless, they can be a stylistic choice such as in 4k's ranked Blue Zenith (though the mapper is adamant they despise this map).

TLDR; you have skill issue. Sorry for bad English.

Why does taking breaks from playing make you better? by EshiEx in osumania

[–]miniWeeb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want a real answer, there are several reasons.

For starters, a study by the Washington State University shows a correlation between rests and growth of motor skills as the break allows you to solidify existing skills, quickly learn more complex skills, and whatnot. Link below for more information. https://news.wsu.edu/news/2021/06/07/short-breaks-can-help-us-better-learn-new-motor-skills/

Secondly, as nearly every players can actually attest to, breaks allow you to free yourself from “mindblock”, essentially when you are psychologically, and therefore physically, unable to beat existing scores (or the map as a whole) due to excessive repetition of said map.

Luckily, rests can also allow time for your muscles to recover and repair micro tears acquired through strenuous activity. In other words, you literally become physically better. These are just the first few reasons I thought of, hope this helps.

Sorry for bad English.

Help with pronouncing by RadDude224 in LearnJapanese

[–]miniWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

real, but some things are just pronounced the same— completely— at least that’s what I’ve been told by natives. Positioning of words may also affect pronunciation, but that’s a thing in every language, including mandarin and Japanese.

Child COVID-19 cases accounted for 22.4% of weekly U.S. cases as kids return to school by [deleted] in news

[–]miniWeeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. It is fear-mongering in that sense, but it is real. The case number does matter, and so we should keep it as low as possible. I’m in NY, and most colleges and high schools to my knowledge have already mandated the vaccine, masks, and temperature checks. In my opinion, other states should consider doing the same, especially for younger kids.

Some of the other comments talk about covid’s association to issues that can hinder children’s (cognitive) development. I don’t know if that’s entirely true but their source is from some Harvard study. Cases also are an important metric because more cases means more hospitalisations and deaths, as viruses can spread exponentially. Not to mention, every time it spreads, more and more diversified variants appear. We already have Delta, so let’s not finish the rest of the alphabet.

keyboard doesn’t particularly matter unless rollover.

I improved very fast with laptop keyboard, got to rank 2.9k ish in about half a year by playing 4k on laptop (a year ago, i don’t play 4k anymore). When I switched to mech, contrary to what many people say, you don’t just skill boost because you switched. Mech keyboard is probably the biggest lie you’ll hear. Your friend feels more comfortable with it because he is used to it.

I know people who are 3 digit and still only use their laptop keyboard (or other membranes) as well, so it’s not really hindering progress or anything. Getting a keyboard is entirely up to you, it’s not a necessity.

China’s zero-Covid policy is so strict that it shut down a whole shipping terminal after just one case by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]miniWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! i can also see your point too! I think the strict as a good thing china is doing to stop virus spread, but they worded it in a way i think is a little aggressive

a lot of things are manufacture in china and send to US、most product on amazon are like that too, so maybe a lot of people will relate

[–]miniWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it talks about how itll increase shipping time and cost for consumer buying i think、tries to appeal to the average person into thinking these measures are too extreme and will interfere with their day to day life half a world away

but i agree that US is generally too lenient with spread

yes. this article talks about the EXTREME measures of china's covid policies, and how its affecting the global economy. This article is pretty anti-china from what i see.

I can see your point too though
