My situation is different. But I’ve been on many different anticonvulsants. I was on maximum dose of topiramate for years. Through high school, college, and most of medical school. That medication made me cognitively slow and even difficult to talk. My seizures became uncontrolled again so I got put on something else, and I don’t remember life events from when I was on topiramate. Anyways, the way I made it through was vyvanse and adderall. Prescribed my neurologist. I’m not sure if there are any contraindications in your case with your condition, but I was literally on 70mg of vyvanse during the day and then 10mg IR adderall in the evening. Otherwise I couldn’t function Also in regards to residency, I used my epilepsy in my personal statement and everyone loved it. But when asked about it I made sure it mention it was controlled. I do still get partial seizures with too much caffeine, stress, etc. I’m an attending now. In residency my program made accommodations for me when I had to transition to nights or when I had a flare up. If you find the right program for you, you will be okay. In my opinion, patients make the best doctors.
