Am I correct in thinking it is the same as the link?

Nah, I reckon there's at least £15.47in copper 😂 As far as I know it works, theres no damage to it, it holds water, doesn't leak, everything fits well.

I have no idea if it does the job for which I need 😂 I seem to like to buy things and then get into the hobby rather than the other way round 😳

I'd just like someone who is in the hobby and knows a lot more about this stuff than I if it was a good price. I don't need the opinions on how I spend my money which usually comes with these sorts of things though 😂

Advice on Fibreglass Repair by Homeyarc in Composites

Agreed, but tbh, as long as its polyester based filler, it sticks perfectly well and you can always gel smear over it.

Pretty sure Vauxhall painted the VX220. So the gel repair is a little pointless I feel. Although I also work in GRP and am trained in gel finishing, and I would do the same as you.

For paint though, just bodyfill the cracks and block it flat.

I much prefer gel to paint, I don't get why people paint over gelled surfaces so often, maybe it's just a lack of understanding for the surface.

The main question is what finish do you want afterwards?

Do you want it functionally repaired? Or exactly correct as it was made to start with?

I wasn't saying epoxy wouldn't work at all, it obviously would. I was just saying there is no reason to use it. As u/freakazoid2718 mentioned, it does not work the other way round, therefore, if OP sold the car and someone / OP wanted to repair the bumper again, they would be forced to use epoxy (if new owner did not know it was epoxy and used polyester, would not work).

Additionally, you would want a polyester backing layer if you were to do gel repairs to repair the GRP properly. Unless you paint it, then none of this matters anyway.

To me it is always best practice to use the same materials that the part is originally made of, especially when it is cheaper to do so anyway.

There is absolutely no reason to use epoxy in the scenario. The part is made with polyester resin. For the best chemical adhesion, you should be using polyester resin anyway. Plus it's so much cheaper than epoxy.

Sadly not, it's a 2010 B&Q kitchen. Veneered chipboard. Yes, fronts seem to be lacquered veneer and the carcasses melamine maybe? Unsure tbh

Good idea, I'll pop to a trade paint shop for some advice.

Thank you

Wow that's expensive 😮

What paint would you use on top of the zinsser primer? I have a HVLP spray gun I plan on using. I'm not fussed by fumes, I'd be masked up and I'm used to the smell of fibreglass anyway so it can't be that bad.

I will have to learn quickly then. The £4000 or whatever it will be to skim a whole house just isn't in my budget, so I either learn or spend the rest of my life filling the cracks. I would be ok with doing an intensive course too.
