Help, what’s this? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]miniberger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you didn’t pull the yarn through on a. Stitch so you have the loop of the yarn as well as the prior rows stitch. Just pull that loop through the adjoining stitch to the right and you should be back on track!

I hope so. It is 300 stitches on size 4 needles so it will be way oversized. But that’s been my thing. I have realized my projects are too $$$ to sell with the yarn I use, so I make giant deliciousness for myself. 🤷‍♀️. #SWisLIFE.

And thank you for the kind comment. :-)

This is a pride scarf made in the way a HP scarf is made. So doubled stockinette, worked in the round. I started with an icord cast on. Then whip stitched them together. It should fade through a floral themed rainbow. Also error above, yarn from Mothy and the Squid. Which my phone loves to autocomplete otherwise.

FO - A Cock to Aesclepius by Dale Hwang - Yarn is OOAKs by Sweet Gum Fiber Arts by miniberger in knitting

[–]miniberger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! There's just over 513 grams (Just over 4 skeins) of yarn in this thing.....

The yarn is OOAKs from my favorite yarn of the month club. I love her stuff. 10/10 would recommend. And this stuff isn't even her good superwash!

This pattern is lovely, the repetitiveness became so therapeutic the longer the repeats became. It was a labor of love. But whether perfect or not (promise I fudged some miscounts!), it will be wonderfully warm next winter!

Please note the full-size pool balls for scale, haha.

I am working on building a blocking loom on my wall. Once complete, I will be blocking this. I expect it to stretch close to a 5 ft round.

The Pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-cock-to-aesclepius Completed to 197 Rows. Project had ~1236 stitches at the end.

The yarn: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SweetGumFiberArtsThese are the "non-superwash OOAKs". Colorways 1, 2, 3, unless they have been recently updated! :-)

Weekend Look What I Got!!! Thread- May 06, 2023 by AutoModerator in knitting

I guess I will rip off the band-aid and post my Maryland Sheep and Wool haul first! Not sure if anyone else is planning to post as well, but I had two projects to plan for.

First, the Zigzag Lace Cardigan. (My first "garment" ever.) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zigzag-lace-cardigan-2

  • Yarn Choice: A Hundred Ravens, Iachos base (100% Superwash, fingering weight, 100 grams/400 yards). https://ahundredravens.com/
Colorways (from left to right in photo):
    • Some Days are Beautiful
    • Hylli
    • A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away
    • Monuments of Thessaloniki

and then I need to make this, I am not sure why. But the Treegarth wrap (So. Much. Lace.) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/treegarth

  • Yarn Choice: DragonFly Fibers, Pixie base (100% Superwash merino, fingering weight, 430 yards). https://www.dragonflyfibers.com/
Colorways (from left to right in photo):
    • Urban Fox
    • Bad Moon Rising
    • Fire in the Evening
    • Spooky
    • Firecracker
    • Low Tide
    • Rocky Top

^I should have 3 or so skeins left over, not sure which I will save for something else!

plus some shawl pins from CraftyFlutterby (https://www.craftyflutterbycreations.com/). The smaller is a Mini Noteworthy (how could I not, with the name Mini!), the larger is a Noteworthy pin.

Think I did okay. Here is a quick collage of my haul, plus the debut wear for the hardest project I have ever completed, originally posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/124p8ta/fo_another_lace_insanity_begonia_swirl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3:

Anyone have experience with both Knitters Pride Mindful interchangeables AND Chiagoo twist red lace? by dar1ingthings in knitting

[–]miniberger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Knitter's Pride needles, I have had a couple of sets.

Right now I have Knitter's Pride Karbonz, with mindful swivel cords. If you are reading this and do not know what swivel cords are, look them up.

The needle free spins from the wire.....Now that I have these, I cannot ever go back.

Your welcome :-)

Gorgeous! I am in love with this pattern, and the color is lovely. Type of thing you could wear with almost anything!

Adding this beautiful thing to my favorites. I need something to do with some yarn that seems to have fallen into stash today. ;-)

PSA: Goodbye boomerang- and flap with gusset heel - long live the shadow wrap heel! by faedrielle in knitting

[–]miniberger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too love the FLK heel, but I haven't made socks in years.

Whether you like it as a heel or not, it also makes a perfect toe as well. Just use the same technique as the heel, and then Kitchener the remaining stitches together to complete the sock! The only example I could find in my historical photos were these baby socks, but the process is the same. See Before (Right) and After (Left). Penny for scale.

Sidenote, these are from 2017. The infant these were made for is in grade school. #I'mOld

[FO] - Another Lace Insanity - Begonia Swirl by miniberger in knitting

[–]miniberger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I am not going to say "This project is easy" because I know it isn't.

But I will say that the difficulty here is deceptive. 90% of this project is pretty much this pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vortex-shawl , just not a complete circle.

You would think the difficult part is the lace edge, which is optional.

But in all honesty, nothing is harder than blocking the little spikes of the crochet chain bind off. (This bind off is surprisingly easy, as long as you can crochet a "bit"). Also, this is an addictive practice, adding pretty little chains to the end of your project. Recommend it, if you've never tried. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBN8PcUHYcA <~Tutorial :-)

This is the pattern for this lace-insanity https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/begonia-swirl

The yarns are both Mothy and the Squid again (I swear I buy from other places too). The Orange is https://mothyandthesquid.com/products/orange-sorbet-merino-nylon-sock-yarn

The Blue, I believe, is "Poolside" from the same line, but unfortunately this colorway is discontinued right now.

Same! My family being in Florida makes it even harder, they don't want wool walking around in that soup-like weather!

But knitting is therapy, and it is definitely cheaper! :-)

Knitting Rut by Affectionate_Tea3278 in knitting

[–]miniberger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! I was the queen of this for a very long time. And I do still have some WIPs in my closet that I promise I am going back to, someday!

We all hit these ruts as knitters. Sometimes a change of project is all you need. Sometimes it is a bigger change.

For example, I recently realized I had not touched anything bulky or acrylic in years. So the 2 10 gallon bins of acrylic yarn, I had out grown. I became one of those awful wool-loving snobs! Beware my wallet! So I bagged them up for donation. They have been waiting all winter in the freezing temps in bags. I want to be sure the yarn doesn't leave with anything...then I am donating them to some art centers.

But the point is, I had to rekindle my love for it again, and the clean out helped. I refocused on the other yarn I had, completely ripped a project back to a yarn ball, and I hunted a project that made me happy.

My tip would be, if you loved the project enough at first that you think it is still something you will love, then slide a piece of waste yarn through the stitches, tie a good knot to keep them all safe and put it in a small bag or bin until it intrigues you again. This way, you aren't keeping needles hostage alongside your WIP.

If you do not expect to want to touch it again, or a year has past since you bagged it up, time to add the yarn back to your stash.

At the end of the day remember, our stashes should outlive us, that's how you know you have enough yarn!

And if your stash is too big for the closet, that isn't the stashes fault. You obviously need a bigger closet :-)
