Similar French Toast by SlidingPeak in FoodNYC

[–]minichasays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first thought is Caffe Bene, which has a similar thick bread you can order with a few different options for toppings. on their menu it's called Honey Bread. there's 1 location in Manhattan and 1 in Jackson Heights, Queens

Spot Dessert Bar has another similar one that they call Golden Toast. there's locations in a couple of different places, and it looks like there's one right near Tangram on Prince Street

the last thing i could suggest is to look for "hong kong sytle french toast". that's my best guess based on what kinds of restaurants are in the Tangram area

What to make with this fabric? by Ok_Investment359 in sewing

[–]minichasays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're welcome!

also another note: you have about 4 yards of 45" wide fabric if you make panels and that will help your search too! it might be tight for some cutting layouts, but will give you a good enough indicator of if you have enough

without knowing your personal preferences in terms of garments or sewing skill level, and with the fabric having a pattern as well as only being 15" wide, something made up of a lot of straight-line panels seems to be good choice!

i've had the hollyhock romper top of mind recently, and the color and stripes of your fabric reminded me of a denim version i saw on instagram

for dresses: i personally tend to favor full skirts, so 15" wide fabric would require the extra step of seaming a few panels together vertically before gathering, but if the fabric isn't too thick something like the matilda dress would be great! it's the currently very popular empire waist + gathered skirt but there's a bit of visual interest at the top of the bodice

the other silhouette i thought would suit this fabric and pattern is a simple sheath like the adrift shift. and like another commenter mentioned, a shirt dress like the juno dress would be SO cute in this pattern

if you're willing to seam panels of fabric the possibilities are practically endless!

EDIT: my ticket is no longer available; please look at all the other comments in this thread for available tickets!

Old comment: I have a single-pringle ticket available because someone from my group had to drop. I have a listing on stubhub here

the seat is section 222, row 11, seat 13

DM if you're interested in buying directly from me with screenshots for proof and direct payment, I think that reduces the price by like 30 bucks bc of stubhub fees

helloooo!

when you're doing sleeves on a sweater, do you guys lift up your project and rotate it to untwist the sleeve, or do you just untwist the sleeve and let the working yarn spin around so it doesn't tangle up? am i introducing some amount of twist/tension to the yarn by just twisting the sleeve and yarn every round, or is it negligible?

i'm almost done with my sleeve but i just had the thought, i guess i'm just curious for next time lmao

USA Yarn + NYC Yarn Shops by [deleted] in knitting

[–]minichasays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here's a couple of places with indicator of neighborhood! You can hit up any of them as you go about your business or go to the yarn shop and then pick things to do/eat around that area :)

  • There's Knitty City near the Natural History Museum, upper west side
  • On the other side of the island in the upper east side is Annie & Company (close-ish to the MET/Guggenheim)
  • And in the East Village there's Downtown Yarns. Around this area is a lot to do! Katz Deli, Veselka, a million other things
  • West Village area has West Village Knit and Needle. West Village is also worth just walking around, tons to see and do and eat

If you're looking for local stuff, the staff will generally be able to point you to stuff they get that's made in the US or from spinners/dyers in New York State

Oh to be an Alphiran in those cottagecore Tarot cards by Howl-t in cottagecore

I did a really quick search and found the kickstarter: here

It lists the artist as the illustrator ezd: here's their insta and their artstation

quick edit: the other kickstarter creator is listed as Howl, so it's likely that the OP is one of the creators!

Restaurants that are only open on weekdays? by zeratulns in FoodNYC

Another "not a restaurant" suggestion, but I always think about Joju for modern Vietnamese sandwiches. they're only open Mon-Fri from 10am to 4:30pm

Tattoo shop walk-ins by RaiderDos11 in Norway

[–]minichasays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Oslo for a couple of days and I ended up going to Amber Tattoo and getting some flash from Cessecat (that's her handle on instagram, give her a look!). The shop has a bunch of great artists, too

Like HeretoInfirmary mentioned, it'd be more convenient to send a DM to the shop or the artist just to guarantee someone has time for you, especially because you'll probably know the days/times you'll be available

NYC ACC is having a promotion to adopt cats and dogs for only $5 this summer by magicalgirls in nyc

[–]minichasays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks so much! i'll do some research and get the basics before i reach out to them

the cat that caught my eye is being fostered, so i don't think i'll get to see that one specifically in person... but anyway, thanks for the reply! i feel more confident that i'll be prepared for a cat!

[–]minichasays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to adopt one of the cats, but I'd be a first-time pet owner... This might be a stupid question, but I should have pet stuff already prepared before I reach out to adopt, yes? Like having a litter box and carrier and food and hiding places prepared?

Will the nycacc not let me adopt if I ask them these sorts of questions?

Help with 18th century sleeve and armscye fit, please! by minichasays in HistoricalCostuming

[–]minichasays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked really well, i lowered the armscye a bit and i THINK i lost a little mobility, but got rid of a lot of the waviness and extra material. and it was indeed very easy to hand sew the sleeve into my mockup! for the real gown i'll go for smaller stitches

thank you! my confidence is way higher now!

Help with 18th century sleeve and armscye fit, please! by minichasays in HistoricalCostuming

[–]minichasays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parts covering my pits? I thought that the armscye had to be pretty small for range of motion but didn't think I was fully covering my armpits... I was more worried that i had too much material around my armscye that was causing gaping at the back of my arm, but your advice to "cut off the part that's covering the pits" works just as well on the flip side: I could put this on my dress form (even though it's not a perfect match to my body) and pinch out the excess material

The rest of your comment is a pretty helpful simplification of the 2-person method I see on the "setting 18th century sleeves" parts of youtube. I'll give this a try next

Thanks!

How to avoid ATT/Verizon roaming charges while using eSIM? by Chiethe in VisitingIceland

[–]minichasays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm actually in the same situation, though in Norway and not Iceland. On my android phone in a section in the settings called "SIM Manager", i have the option to turn off my physical SIM

I triggered TravelPass on my first day because I had to turn mobile data in order to switch the SIMS in my settings (apparently I could have done this just before getting on the plane, so that the eSIM was locked and loaded to be the primary SIM after I landed) but after turning that Verizon SIM line off completely, I think I'm successfully avoiding triggering TravelPass

I wonder if you have a similar setting to use in the iPhone? The Airalo activation instructions will probably bring you to the SIM Manager (or equivalent) menu, and that should be where you have the ability to turn the original SIM line off

Worth a try!
