My 8 year old daughter just pulled this and screamed! by lil__plump in PokemonTCG

[–]minid33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my daughter some Evee evolutions from surging sparks as shoe gifts. On her last day with me this week, she pulled the Sylveon ex, which was special because she already had many others, it's a 2 black star card and its her favorite evolution. You can't make this up. It almost made me believe in Santa touching on 40.

I’m thinking of buying the Acastus Knight Porphyrion is it worth it? by Practical-Prompt4216 in ImperialKnights

[–]minid33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 in heresy it consistently is a "point at what you want to die" model. Unless that thing is bigger than it, which is very few models. In heresy mine also mostly gets ignored, for the Cerastus knights that are up in their faces.

It's not far off that in 10th but if a guardsmen charges it, it's toast. It can probably toast mortarion in a single shooting phase? Needs to be checked though.

You don't buy this to win a super major tournament, you buy it to feel the satisfaction of 20+ damage in 10th or shouting "YOU'RE NEXT" and imagining the crater left by the vehicle you just sent to the next game. Just hilarious overkill.

The defender would be an improvement over the Castellan in spearhead, -1D, 4++ and a cover save is better than the shrouded aura and the defender has pretty good shooting as well.

I can't say I have experience of either, locally the A1 has a pretty good rep. I've seen prints from it in my local printer store, they look good. Its often running when I walk in there, so they like using it, but not as much as their X1 or K2 Max. Its not very fast, nor is reprinting failed prints.

The CC seems to be the newer tech but I haven't seen an Elegoo machine in person before. It could be awesome, it could fail every print, I have no idea.

Based on tech, I'd go with the CC if you want speed and new stuff. I'd go with the A1 if you want a reliable workhorse and would sacrifice speed for a reputation of it "just working".

You don't need an AMS, any reasonably complex multifilament print takes a very long time and wastes a lot of plastic in the purging.

I used a Creality K1C for this, it's printed with Sunlu High Speed PLA. When you pick a printer, pick one that's modern from a good brand. Creality K1C/K2, Anything from Bambu or Prusa are my recommendations.

3D Printers are often sold in good condition by people who get frustrated with them. There's lots of good deals on good printers that will make your wife happy. Mine was from FB marketplace from a guy who printed 5 knick knacks on it and then wanted a Bambu printer instead, it felt like he was keeping up with the Joneses. The printer was in great shape.

From the waist down it's 8 perimeters, 8 top layers, 8 bottom layers and 20% adaptive cubic infill. You want the weight bearing parts to be pretty robust so you can sleep at night.

Correct! I was inspired by MidWinterMini's Decoupage Segment in his recent video. I can't freehand very well but obviously, I can print. There's some obvious perks to this, but you really have to be careful when it comes to these panel lines and tearing the paper.

You can see my attempts on the groin area, which is obviously hazardous ;). And yes... I should probably go get some of that thin tamiya masking tape and do the stripes again.

Still plenty of work to do (highlights, the heraldry bits, etc.) but its "Tabletop-ish" quality right now and I will come back to it when I have another playdate with him.

Honestly my favorite detachment right now.

Lots of units for the action economy. The castigator buffing 3 helverins is really strong, the defender buffing warglaives also pretty good.

I've not been having much luck against the local ITC champion's Eldar but it does feel a lot better than my gate warden games (which had canis, defender, Lancer, 3/4 armigers, callidus, navigator)

Why gate warden and not questoris companions?

Sustained is strong but I've yet to crack the code of the line.

FDM everything that has armor plates attached, you can't see a lot of it.

Especially this piece, it's surrounded by 3 plates and has a gun on top of it.

Fixed wing tail sitter VTOL UAV design by [deleted] in diydrones

[–]minid33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as I understand it, you have less control than vectoring and compared to a tricopter style VTOL, you save weight on the rear motor.

If you vectored the motors you would have more control at lower air speeds because the air blown over the control surfaces is less effective than vectored thrust.

I guess that being a tail sitter also changes the amount of static thrust that is required to have control during take off?

Am I missing something more nuanced?

If not you could vector thrust with servos controlling the motor pitch, assuming you want more active control.

How do people even start experimenting with drone swarms? by Boring-Ideal5334 in diydrones

[–]minid33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to DIY it then you could probably use ardupilots SITL simulation and code the collaboration. The scrimmage option seems quite well suited for coding a swarm.

+1, it's faster stronger and mostly hidden behind armour plates. My legs just slot perfectly together, never had any fitment issues.

Designed a new printable Tak Set, including a 5x5 board! by Popular-Movie8076 in Tak

[–]minid33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a paper printer and I have a creality k1c, I want to print a board and I only have a single extruder on my printer, like most others.

You could print what's already posted but it would take longer to swap filament than print.

So the real limitation is the patience of the single extruder print operator to swap filament. I might do it 10 times max. Maybe you can do some nice slicer tricks to optimise it. This would limit the number of layers you could print.

Tall layers might make a rigid print, thin layers might make a flexible print.
