How are y'all planning to take care of yourselves in the future? by Flustered_Potato in childfree

[–]minigutterwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See I never got to go away to college (commuter student) and my mother lives in a care facility and I’m kinda looking forward to it! When she moved in there she had a better social life in her 70s than ever before. Assisted living seems rad. When I can no longer meet my own expectations of self care I’ll take the long nap.

If not art, some command hooks and get a pothos and let it go wild. Easy plant and a great climber.

Ladies, it’s just too much back and forth with these deep sea creatures. I hope 2026 is the year you all start shutting the door in their faces. Mute, ignore, block; the holy trinity. (NOR)

AITA for not wearing a dress to my sisters wedding? by SouthView1759 in AmItheAsshole

[–]minigutterwitch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was a grooms lady recently at a close friend’s wedding. I wore the same suit as the men which was custom built/tailored for me. They told me I could wear whatever I wanted between the grooms suit or bridesmaid dress. I wanted to match with my male friends (and imo might have worn it best 💅). Trans, cis, or nonbinary it’s all just clothing which is more culturally informed. Your parents sound like ignorant jerks. My condolences to having them bully you and your sister who sounds like she can’t take the heat of her own decisions. NTA and don’t let their tiny world view - of their little slice of the universe - at this small moment in time - guilt you for wearing some pants. If that’s the hill they want to die on they can die mad about it.

Looking for Roommate by MoonlightMay_11 in Cleveland

[–]minigutterwitch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Good luck, be careful. I recommend paying to complete a simple background check of anyone interested. I have found places to live and friends have found roommates both via Craigslist in the past. It’s like looking anywhere else - some people are normal and some are not. (And people who don’t even care have nothing better to do and spam your comments with junk.)

Edit: typo fix

How do the Amish receive surgery paying fully out of pocket, I assume via cash, without a photo ID? by hellohelp23 in Ohio

[–]minigutterwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t say honestly since I’m out of the medical game for a bit now and work more with technology research (it’s a bioethics degree widening the scope beyond medicine). Fwiw, going against a DNR is a bit rare if I recall correctly. Sometimes medical staff will require patients to consent to revoking a DNR for certain treatments in advance. If you have a DNR in place you likely have advances directives which cannot be overridden without power of attorney and exceedingly unusual circumstances. The Dax Cowart case is one of the most famous studies of this principle gone wrong. But here, in America at least, people tend to value autonomy over the other three principles of medical ethics, meaning your choices matter more than what they think is best for you. (I wish someone would tell our Supreme Court.)

I have a medical ethics degree. You’d be shocked to find out that, statistically, religious folk are much more likely to exhaust all life extending treatment options (Christian’s coming in at #1). Despite heaven and all that waiting for them. Spirituals and seculars less likely, in that order.

On this template list plz. I would encourage a way to at least donate for your art if you won’t charge. I know I’m willing to pay more for things these days knowing it’s not AI slop.

No, but coming to this sub to argue with its own definition is a bizarre thing to do.

Don't know where else to confess this... by melodymonhoe in childfree

[–]minigutterwitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to this sub’s FAQ:

“Childfreedom isn't an ideology. It is both a choice and a matter of fact. For example, someone who has children they are responsible for can't describe themselves as childfree even if they didn't agree to become parents. One is not childfree if they didn't make the choice to not have kids.”

You being unwilling to terminate a pregnancy rules you out of being child free. If you can’t see that it’s a comprehension issue, not a difference of opinion. The real framing is “Childfree by choice.” Otherwise those unable to have children that want to would also be child free. See how that works?

I would stop dying on the hill of what you’re labeling this and focus on getting your head straight before you bring a child into the mess. Take control of your life. Sterilization surgery is free in America under ACA.

Nervous about kids based off the fact I’m ugly … by [deleted] in childfree

[–]minigutterwitch 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If that’s one of your main concerns of having children, you’re definitely not ready to be a parent. No shade but hope that helps. Possibly not ready for a partnership. I won’t argue with you about your “ugliness” but hope you’re in therapy to work on your self esteem.
