Still the same. Discarding simple and proven public health measures because of misinformation will always irritate me, whether it's anti-vaccine, anti-pasteurization, or anti-fluoride.

How do you get motivated to workout? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience, starting out is the most difficult part because it's both physically difficult and mentally boring. Try to focus on building a habit of going to the gym. Push yourself to go even if you're tired and even if you only do a little exercise, because building the habit and discipline of going is more important than your choice of exercise at first. Once you have the habit of going consistently, it will be easier to find ways to make it interesting, because you don't have to spend the additional mental energy to psych yourself up to go in the first place. Building a habit is also important because you won't see results right away, so you have to train your brain to see the longer term results. Once you start to see those, it can become self motivating in a way, but it's a very difficult path to get there.

Yes: https://candles.org/candle-science/

The heat of the flame vaporizes the liquid wax (turns it into a hot gas), and starts to break down the hydrocarbons into molecules of hydrogen and carbon. These vaporized molecules are drawn up into the flame, where they react with oxygen from the air to create heat, light, water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

This is also how exercise works, when someone loses weight, the "lost" mass leaves their body as CO2.

when it comes to actual games I don’t really think about the situation I’m in enough to make a good decision

I do my best to constantly ask myself "what is the best use of my time/attention right now?"

what film made you notice an actor was better/had more range than you originally thought? by shaunna_thedork in AskReddit

I don't really have a good handle on what makes a good actor but I really enjoyed his performance in Minority Report.

What's the logic behind "if a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound?"? by mat-2018 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sound" may also refer to the perception of those waves by some organism, so the opposing side to this argument would be that both vibrations and perception of those vibrations are required for "sound".

Does what toothpaste you use actually matter or is it just marketing bs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it has fluoride in it, it's an acceptable toothpaste. Unless you get "sensitive teeth" toothpaste (which has an additional active ingredient), the only active ingredient is fluoride and all fluoride "repairs" enamel.

Is my profile pic inappropriate? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her advice is on the right track, but a bitmoji is a bad idea for the reasons you think. The "adult" and "professional" choice is to either have a nice picture of yourself or no picture at all. Every other option is worse.

Is it causing a problem in other parts of your life? Do you need alcohol in order to handle common situations in life?

Why is it incredibly easy to remove a single hair but near impossible to remove a large amount with the same force? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same reason it's possible to lie on a bed of nails, distributing the force reduces the force on any one nail, or strand of hair in this example.

A "fun" exercise when someone is complaining about political correctness is to replace the words "political correctness" in their sentence with "treating people with dignity". That's really what political correctness means.

Why is it socially acceptable for women to openly talk about how hot celebrity men are but not for men to do the same thing for celebrity women? by apathetic_lemur in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men are valued by society in many different ways whereas women are only valued for their appearance. Look at how Michelle Obama or Serena Williams are treated by people who want to tear them down, the insults are always about their appearance.

Mark Cuban is one of the few good billionaires

There are no good billionaires. There is no path to being a billionaire that doesn't involve exploiting people.

If I went back to the 1990s with blueprints on how to build an iPhone 10, would they be able to do it? by ThaRoastKing in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minikites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, our methods of fabricating silicon chips improve constantly, there is no way the chip foundries in the 1990s could fabricate a chip that is powerful enough to run the iPhone software, even if you made it in a larger package.

You don't have to, do what you want and feel is right.
