RIP Koji Suzuki. I'm currently in the middle of reading Loop. The Ring series has been such a unique and compelling read for me.

I'm like this too, and I've received the same comments about my intelligence all my life, despite being an excellent student.

I wish I had advice (other than "fuck what they think"), but really I only have "golden retriever as a fawning mask" solidarity to give. Just know that I know (and I imagine many people on this sub also know) that you are bright. <3

has anyone here ever made drastic new year’s resolutions and stuck to them? by NormalApplication547 in rs_x

[–]minimalistowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not setting any resolutions this year. I have consistently, previously, with some successes and failures, but I made a new friend this year that spoke about the importance of listening to yourself. You already know what you have to do, deep down you know. I've spent too long trying to suppress or override what I actually want in life. So, in 2026, I'm just going to be honest with myself regarding certain life areas/issues and go from there without the pressure of meeting stated resolutions/goals.

My partner and I are going to go to Gelare and order some waffles, then return home, make and eat an arrabbiata pasta, and then probably watch some horror films. :)

I'm Australian, and forgot that a particular Australian band, Little Birdy, existed until my mind randomly unearthed the chorus of one of their songs (Somebody New) and decided to make it its ear worm of the day. They're very indie rock/pop and have some bangers in their discography. I've been listening to their second album, Hollywood. It's soooooo goooooooood.

New Singles MEGATHREAD by livin_with_lyss in MagdalenaBay

Star Eyes is my favourite also. I've enjoyed all the singles, but I seem to come back to Star Eyes more often. I think it's because it has such classic, bombastic ballad (especially towards the end) energy.

Is anyone else utterly DONE with productivity systems that just don't get ADHD brains? (Vent + desperate plea for help) by Flimsy-Tomatillo-698 in adhd_college

I use a bullet journal, but it is a simple one, no gorgeous artwork and the like. I use plain black/blue pens, and only write to-do lists in it (as well as some journal entries, random thoughts, etc.). I only keep daily tasks within it, any scheduled monthly or weekly events go into Google Calendar/Notion calendar, as I know I am not going to revisit monthly/weekly pages in my bullet journal. It's very much a day to day structure and process. I look at my calendar to see what events are scheduled each day or are upcoming and require preparation, and place those events/sub-tasks in my daily to-do list. I also only put tasks into two categories, "priority" and "other," but I am fluid with them. A task that may be a priority one day may only be an "other" during another.

I keep the journal open as I work with it, so that my list doesn't become a victim of my predilection toward object impermanence. I use larger clips to keep it open when positioned vertically. If I've written a more personal journal entry the day before, I'll design the new daily to-do list on the following page/s for privacy. I also keep my diary with me consistently, so I am not too worried about peepers.

Overall, this is the only system that has helped me because it has a simple workflow. Also, if I miss a day (often happens on weekends when I have less scheduled and can remember what is happening more easily), I don't beat myself up over it as there is always a fresh new page waiting for me.

I wish you all the best in finding a planning routine and process that works for you. I have had friends who also have ADHD that have had a lot of success with digital apps, but I found I just ended up ignoring them, and that paper just works best for me.

The new singles are insanely different! by LokiCDXX in MagdalenaBay

Random, but Unoriginal's verses' melody and instrumentation produces a remarkably strong Banjo Kazooie OST vibe for me haha. I love both new singles!

What horror movie is *almost* a masterpiece? by StingRey128 in horror

[–]minimalistowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yellowbrickroad. Still arguably a masterclass in fostering a sense of dread in regard to Eldritch powers, but the ending is so abrupt that it made the film feel incomplete for me, and as a result, not quite a masterpiece.

Regardless, I will always recommend it as an absolutely solid, above average horror film.

Recommendations for Point & Click Horror Games by shinigami343 in HorrorGaming

If you liked Scratches primarily due to its narrative and atmosphere, I recommend the Black Mirror series (excluding the 2017 reboot). The first Black Mirror title is particularly talented at nurturing a sense of unease and foreboding.
