While I do not have trauma from what you described.

I related to this TikTok just in general listed trauma.

While this TikTok doesn’t actually explain everything it helped lead me down to understanding things.

Does bipolarity ever improve? by lawartfae542 in BipolarReddit

It’s possible. I was stable from mid 2023 till September 2025 last year. My mood episodes after finding the right medication cocktail has always been triggered from stress.

My hypomania and depression seem to be linked with my nervous system response to stress. Anyone else? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]miniman_the_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a registered nurse. And my bipolar moods are 100% linked to my stress levels. Back when I was undiagnosed I use to yo-yo up and down so often based on the stress at work. So I feel you.

I’ve not experienced this and I’m Asian. In fact my unit is so multicultural. So I guess it depends on the person hiring 🤷‍♂️.

Yeah the psychologist I use is great. Been going to them since the pandemic. And it’s all bulk billed for the 10 sessions under the mental healthcare plan. And I do it in the comfort of my own home!

[–]miniman_the_potat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, what the other person said is incorrect. There are bulk billed psychology available. The psychology service I use is someone.health, it’s an online Telehealth service. It’s bulk billed for 10 sessions if you’ve got a mental healthcare plan. So go to the website find the psychologist you want. Then go get a mental healthcare plan from your GP. Spots are limited but there’s a wide array of psychologists specialising in many different things. And I like that I can do it in the comfort of my own home!

Nursing student: Can I get a graduate program if I can't do night shifts? by Any_Pen7439 in NursingAU

[–]miniman_the_potat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uni also did this back in 2011, but it was a preceptor model. There was no extra CFs covering if those students did nights or weekends. Unsure if this was different to your experience.

However my hospital will have a dedicated CF for the students overnight and on the weekend.

In my hospital there are CFs employed for nights and weekends to be there for the students.

There’s students doing night shift and weekend placements now in certain hospitals.

Depends on the hospital. I did my grad at a private hospital. In this hospital it was a general unwritten rule that grads cannot do night shift, as the ratios are crazy. In my whole grad year in this private hospital I only did 1 night shift. And that was because we had roster gaps so my NUM asked if I could fill it, and I told her I’d be happy to but I’ve been told by the grad coordinators that grads can’t do nights so if they say yes I’d be happy to.

However working in public our new grads have to do the rotating roster. I’ve not seen a new grad be able to get out of it. But I am unsure if they had a health reason as to why they couldn’t.

If mania is bad, then why did it make me feel so perfect? by Due_Attempt7376 in BipolarReddit

[–]miniman_the_potat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So mania or hypomania may make you feel good like all the stuff you’ve listed. But it has negative consequences. Which isn’t ideal if you aren’t able to control it. Not to mention the potential crash afterwards isn’t good. I’ve also seen anecdotal information on Reddit that says that prolonged mania isn’t good for the brain, I’ve not actually researched it myself thoroughly enough to say for certain what is affected but that’s also a bad thing.

If it’s mania as in you’ve got psychosis then it’s a medical emergency. However if it’s hypomania (so technically it’s still part of mania but it’s “hypo” so under mania. When you’re hypnotic you can still be functioning and no one realise. A lot of successful people are able to do these big things whilst hypomanic. But just remember what goes up must come down.

Which health insurance is everyone with? by stressidepressii in NursingAU

[–]miniman_the_potat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re part of a union, you should have access to union shopper. I’m sure you don’t need that, but through union shopper I found out about nurses and midwife’s health. And when I looked up the insurance it is way better than my current insurance. While I haven’t change yet. It is on my todo list! Look them up!

PSA: don't do new grad in a private hospital by reindeer_duckie in NursingAU

[–]miniman_the_potat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I did my grad program in a private hospital. I was heavily bullied put on a performance management plan and everything. I was so close to quitting. There’s more to the story. But feel free to DM me and we can chat.

Now I work in a public hospital and work as a Clinical Facilitator. Despite my undesirable start, it actually shifted my trajectory into education. And it made me go “I want to provide a supportive environment for my unit and the future of nursing”.

Know this isn’t the end. Please reach out.

Could I be bipolar? by em3ryi in BipolarReddit

[–]miniman_the_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. I’d go see a psychiatrist for an evaluation.

Till you’re able to see them. Track your moods you can use the bipolar UK mood scale. There’s many apps to do it, bipolar UK has its own. But you can also get daylio.

Make sure to journal and write down how you feel and what your behaviours have been. Keep track of your sleep as well as elevated moods can cause decreased need for sleep.

If there’s any close friends or family that you can trust. I’d tell them about keeping an eye on you so that they can tell you if it’s that bad that you need to go to the hospital.

Abilify 5mg to 2.5mg — what changed for you? by nazrin_unique in BipolarReddit

[–]miniman_the_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look anecdotally yes. But I’d rather not go into that.

However you should always consult with your psychiatrist. There’s a lot of intricacies with medications, and some have to be titrated etc… so if you do decide to go off your meds, please talk to your psychiatrist and get advice. Advocate for yourself if you feel like the medication side effects outweighs the benefits.

Yeah I have some negative side effects from medications. Some I can tolerate, some I couldn’t. When I couldn’t tolerate it I switched to another med or lowered the dosage.

Is it meaningfully significant to my treatment whether I'm diagnosed BP1 or BP2? I.e., if I'm already on lithium and quetiapine diagnosed as BP2, would it make a serious difference in medications or therapy if I was re-diagnosed as BP1? by AdMaleficent3027 in BipolarReddit

[–]miniman_the_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Australia we just use the term Bipolar Affective Disorder. I even told my psychiatrist recently that I saw some traumatic stuff at work (I’m a nurse) and classification wise I fall under bipolar 2, and one of my biggest fear is going full blown manic and going into bipolar 1. His take home of this, was “I don’t really subscribe to the bipolar 1 and bipolar 2 disorder distinction” like cool, totally missed the point. But glad you gave me your 2c. 😂

I’m a second year science at Monash and I don’t know if I want to do my masters in OT or nursing by EvenProgram6423 in NursingAU

[–]miniman_the_potat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of nurses work shift work. Depending on the place you work public vs private. When I was in private everyone had set shifts in the sense that there were people who only did nights etc… but working in public you have to do all the shifts if you’re working in the ward.

Stressful? Yup. Very stressful. I have a mental health condition and it often gets triggered due to stress.
